Properly designed tile seam is the key to successful apartment renovation and excellent room design, because an error of even 1 millimeter can ruin the look of an expensive overhaul. For the exact calculation of a tile seam, you need to arm yourself with theory. The standard size of the seam is indicated on the packaging of building materials, but in order not to make a mistake and not spoil the masonry, you need to have an additional knowledge base. We wrote this article so that you can correctly calculate the tile seam.
Auxiliary elements
In the decision to choose the size of the seam, the correct ratio of the crosses plays an important role. When laying wall tiles, crosses are selected from 1 to 2 mm. The size of 2.2 mm is suitable only for flooring, and if the room reaches more than 10 meters squared, the stove is more than 1.5 meters. Crosses of 4-5 mm are used in the construction of public buildings, where large-sized kerogranite is laid.

General Provisions
The size of the tile seam depends on the size of the tile and the area of the room. If the living space is less than 4 square meters. meters, tile width up to 60cm, then the seam should be equal to 1 mm. Here you need to keep the golden rule - "The larger the living space, the greater the seam." With a plate size of more than 1 meter, the standard seam is 2–2.5 cm in size, no less.

Masonry, calculation
In the case of laying the floor, the seam should be slightly larger than on the wall. The correct calculation will help to observe the correct patterns in the construction.
- When laying tiles up to 15 centimeters in size, the seam is 2 mm.
- When laying the material from 15 to 25 cm, add another 0.5 mm, we get the size of the seam 2.5 mm.
- In the construction of tile elements with dimensions greater than 25 cm, the tile seam is 3 mm.
That is, for each increase in the size of the plate by ten cm, 0.5 mm is added to the size of the seam.

In construction, several additional rules should be observed: the size of the seam of the floor masonry should be no more than 3 mm. If the master assures the opposite, arguing that the size of the seam more than 3 mm will be better and the masonry is better, then it is advisable to choose another specialist. The trick is the unevenness of the masonry, and the worker wants to correct the error by increasing the size of the seam. By expanding the seam, you can brighten up any irregularities and discrepancies made during the work.
The larger the dimensions of the plate, the more difficult it is to achieve a thin even seam, so not every professional can cope with the job "perfectly." High-quality masonry, will last more than 20-30 years, properly performed seam is the key to successful work.
