Laminate flooring is one of the most sensual types of flooring. Its installation is not only time-consuming, but also requires high-quality preliminary preparation of the floor. Is it possible to lay the laminate on the old floor covering or not, we will try to understand this article.

At the moment, there are no reasoned prohibitions on laying laminate flooring on an existing, without dismantling, coating.
It should be borne in mind that such a method can cause certain difficulties in the process of work, namely:
- The old coating should be perfectly even. The height difference is allowed no more than 2 mm per 1 m2.
- The backing material must necessarily correspond to good quality and have heat and sound insulating properties.
- Joints must be treated with a specialized antiseptic in order to exclude the formation of fungal and other bacterial phenomena.

As for the process of laying a laminate on an old linoleum coating, this method is more risky.

To the extent that linoleum is a soft material, examination of the floor surface for bumps or cavities should be done more carefully.
Old linoleum should fit snugly and efficiently to the floor surface so that during the operation of the laminate, it does not begin to move in certain places. Do not allow moisture, dirt or damaged areas to remain on the linoleum. If the material has excessive softness, then laying laminate on top of it is not recommended. The assembled floor after a certain period of time can begin to sag or publish extraneous creaks. This will require disassembly and repair of the entire floor covering.

To exclude the possible possibility of swelling of the laminate, it is recommended to cover the linoleum with a special substrate, the thickness of which will be at least 3 mm. It can be polyester foam, foamed polyethylene or cork. In addition to protective functions, the intermediate coating will significantly increase the level of heat and sound insulation in room, and its cushioning property will significantly increase the life of the laminate coverings.

Thus, the laminate is a rather multifunctional material, the laying of which can be performed on almost any surface. The key to achieving a high result will be adherence to the technology during the installation process, as well as the use of high-quality fake material.
