Polycarbonate is often used in the construction process of translucent, windproof and shockproof structures and facades, balconies, arbors, canopies, greenhouses and greenhouses. Due to its versatility, it is widely used both in private and commercial households.
When installing polycarbonate, attention should be paid to the protective film on its surface. In some cases, builders forget to remove it, as a result of which it “sticks” to the surface of the material. To remove such a film from polycarbonate is quite difficult, because with inaccurate actions you can leave scratches and other damage on its surface.

Film removal steps
The protective coating can “stick” to the surface of the polycarbonate structure due to prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays. Therefore, to remove it, categorically it is impossible to use heating devices, leading to a similar result. Particular attention should be paid to this requirement for craftsmen who decide to remove the film with a building hair dryer.
The use of heaters ensures that it is not possible to remove the film. The surface of the polycarbonate will be damaged with the impossibility of subsequent restoration.
If the protective film peels off and is sufficiently visualized, you can try to remove it with an ordinary detergent diluted in warm water. The disadvantage of this method is the need for prolonged exposure to liquid on the surface of the sheet.

Solvent application
You can try using solvents to remove the protective film. White spirit will cope well with the task, which can be purchased at a reasonable price in any hardware store.

This solvent does not adversely affect the structure of polycarbonate sheets, however, it destroys the adhesive layer and leads to peeling of the film. After systematic surface treatment with a solvent, you can try pulling one corner of the film, carefully removing it from the entire sheet. In this case, it is strictly forbidden to use metal or wooden auxiliary tools, which can lead to scratches on transparent polycarbonate.
If scratches appear on the sheets, cracks may subsequently occur. Thus, the material will not only serve less, but also lose its visual characteristics.
It is also noteworthy that in some cases even a film "stuck" to the sun can peel off on its own. Most often this happens after prolonged use of a polycarbonate structure.
