How to install platbands on uneven walls

Platband - one of the elements of the door structure that performs a decorative function. He hides the gap between the door frame and the wall. The appearance of the door to a large extent depends on how carefully and accurately the platband is installed.

Platbands are attached to the box in several ways: with the help of small cloves, or planted on glue. If the platband is telescopic, it is attached only to glue “liquid nails”.

The cashing is mounted last, after the door is fully installed. At the same time, if the door frame is installed qualitatively and flush with the wall, and the walls themselves near the door are even, it will not be difficult to nail the platband. But what to do when the box is fixed unevenly, and it is no longer possible to align it, or the walls adjacent to the door are uneven?

Mounting options for platbands to uneven walls

Option 1. Prophylactic

The bottom line is to align all adjacent walls before installing the door. It doesn’t always fit, as you may have to level the wall over the entire area, and there is no time and money for it, or the front door goes into the entrance, where it is undesirable to carry out such work.

Option 2. Box Manipulation

Only suitable for wooden doors, provided that the bumps are small. If the door frame protrudes slightly beyond the wall, in places of protrusions it can be slightly trimmed, and where it is recessed, it can be increased. If the door is then covered with paint, then this method works very well.

Option 3 Suitable for interior doors

If the wall is concave, that is, a void forms between cashing and the wall, it can be closed by cutting a slanting rail. This place can be masked by gently covering it with lap wallpaper. The meaning of this method is that the rail, cut obliquely, will look like a continuation of cashing. - the finished result looks much more attractive than the gap between the wall and the platband.

Option 4 Simplified

The void between the platband and the wall can be carefully filled with sealant and covered with wallpaper. In this case, you need to use acrylic sealant, since wallpaper does not stick to silicone.

Option 5 Local plaster

The essence of the method is that the door with the box is fixed in the doorway, after which the door leaf is removed, the box in order to protect it from the solution paste over with several layers of masking tape, after which a layer of cement mortar or other mortar is applied to the level of the door boxes. After the mixture hardens, the adhesive tape is removed and the platband is mounted.
