You can bet that half-timbered houses were seen by everyone. For the most part, of course, on television, where they flash across as a mandatory attribute of medieval European architecture. This structure can be accurately determined by the characteristic wall layout. Such houses actually began to be built for the first time in medieval Germany, and are being built to this day. Not only that - today they are in high demand and popularity, including in our country.

What is fachwerk
If it’s already quite easy to explain, then the fachwerk is a frame, mainly wooden, whose cells are closed by a filler. In the Middle Ages, clay was used for this, however, nothing prevents us from using it today. However, developers prefer brick, OSB boards, and glass. The peculiarity of half-timbered houses is that it is permissible to use fragile material as a filler, because it does not perform a bearing function - the whole load falls on the frame. At the same time, the frame does not hide, on the contrary - it is the main "feature" of the fachwerk.

The house, built according to half-timbered technology, is warm, first of all, due to the possibility of using a wide range of heaters, spacious and bright. A serious bonus of this design is that it provides good opportunities for redevelopment, since the walls are not a supporting structure.
Why is it better to build a half-timbered house on one floor
Despite the many advantages, the half-timbered design is characterized by increased complexity. In all honesty, it should be recognized that in Russia, in view of the small prevalence of half-timbered buildings, there are not so many specialists who can correctly design the building and build it. This is one of the reasons why it is better to limit yourself to one floor. The second is the fragility of the structure, which, in fact, rests on one frame. Of course, the frame can be made metal, but then the authenticity of the design is lost.

And another reason - half-timbered house is very expensive. In addition to the high cost of the material for the frame and filler (especially if glass is used), development a two-story half-timbered house project and construction work will cost the developer several tens of millions rubles. A one-story half-timbered house, designed and built by domestic specialists, will cost much cheaper - from 2 million. But this is subject to the use of inexpensive building materials.
