Recently, more and more consumers are interested in gypsum plastering, this is due to the fact that the material is easy to use and at an affordable price. Even a person without experience in the construction industry will be able to qualitatively plaster the surface, and numerous experts recommend giving preference to this particular material.
Feature of gypsum-based plaster
At the end of the work, the surface looks perfectly smooth and beautiful, but still there are a number of negative sides:
- Low strength. Such a material is not able to withstand severe loads, this is due to the initially low density of the composition.
- High moisture absorption. Thanks to this ability, gypsum hardens extremely quickly, but it is quickly saturated with moisture. If laid on top of the tile, it will become a barrier to the evaporation of excess moisture, and this will lead to the formation of mold and fungus, the spread of pathogens.
- Porosity. It is problematic to lay the adhesive on any porous surface, that is, reliable adhesion will simply be absent.

If, nevertheless, it was decided to glue the tiles on gypsum plaster, then it is important to follow the basic rules and conditions:
- If we are talking about rooms with a high level of humidity, then it is strongly recommended to abandon gypsum. If there are no other options, then at the end of the work it is worth using an epoxy grout to completely seal all the seams.
- It is best to choose a thin material in the process of buying tiles. Due to the large mass of the use of porcelain tiles is strictly prohibited.
- Before work, it is best to walk along the gypsum base with antifungal compounds, and then additionally prime the surface. The primer is able to fill all pores and increases adhesion. In addition, a similar composition is also an additional protection against the occurrence of fungus. If liquid compositions are used, then you need to let them dry completely, only after complete drying, the gypsum plaster will become stronger.
- It is important to eliminate all irregularities from the surface; for this, a stucco mesh is used. It is best and additionally to verify the strength of the layer. If there are weaknesses, then you can not do without additional reinforcement.
- It is best to use a universal adhesive.
