Why it is impossible to mount tongue-and-groove plates without elastic laying

Such building material as tongue-and-groove plates is often used in the process of erecting internal walls and partitions in houses and apartments. With proper installation, the resulting structures are characterized by a high level of strength, which allows them to serve as a reliable support for furniture sets and household appliances.

In the process of erecting walls from tongue-and-groove plates, it is imperative to strictly follow the technology. Otherwise, the design will not be monolithic, but shaky and unstable.

Types of tongue-and-groove plates

The material can be divided into two main types:

• Corpulent;
• Hollow blocks.

The first type of material has a large weight, and therefore it is advisable to use it during the installation of internal walls. For the construction of partitions, it is worth using lighter hollow plates. Especially if the plates will be mounted on the floor surface with pre-installed wooden logs.

Despite the fact that hollow blocks have unfilled holes in their design, they are distinguished by a high level of sound insulation. For this reason, such plates are often installed at the time of construction of multi-storey buildings.

The use of elastic tape for the installation of tongue-and-groove plates

Deformation of load-bearing elements of a building structure, changes in temperature and humidity, strong pressure or mechanical damage can cause the destruction of partitions made using tongue-and-groove plates. To protect the floors, it is necessary to use additional material - an elastic gasket.

This is a special substrate made of cork material, the width of which should not be less than 75 mm. The gasket is glued to the base of the floors and walls and allows you to reliably install tongue-and-groove plates, which will remain stable regardless of external circumstances.

The construction of partitions can begin one hour after gluing the elastic strip. During this time, it adheres securely to concrete surfaces. For reliable adhesion of materials, it is recommended to use special mounting glue.

If you ignore the use of elastic cork tape, you may encounter problems later on, in which tongue-and-groove plates become unstable and can even change their position or even collapse.
