Cork flooring is ideal for people who want to provide warmth and comfort in their home. It has a good level of thermal insulation, sound insulation and a pleasant texture. You can walk on it barefoot, without fear that your legs will freeze. Cork floors are also recommended for people suffering from diseases of the musculoskeletal system. Movement along their cushioned surface significantly reduces the load on the joints and spine.

Cork flooring can be:
- Castle;
- Glue.
In the second case, a special adhesive mixture should be used. It is strictly forbidden to use PVA glue or other water-soluble compounds. They lead to damage to the coating, the loss of its technical and visual qualities.
The difference in styling methods
The castle way of laying involves installing the flooring on a perfectly flat floor surface. Often, before this installation method, you need to perform a floor screed to level its base. Therefore, the method can be called more expensive and time consuming.

Laying the cork on glue does not need a perfectly even floor covering, and therefore it can be used by those who are not ready to spend time and additional funds from the budget. Professionals recommend at least minimal polishing of the base of the floor and its degreasing. This will significantly improve the adhesion of materials and increase the level of strength of the finished flooring.

Using a cork floor underlay
More reliable adhesion will be ensured if a special insert - a substrate is laid between the surface of the main floor and the cork floor. For these purposes, you can use plywood, linoleum or concrete screed.
Plywood is one of the most budgetary methods (not counting the use of old linoleum) and significantly improves the quality of the finished cork coating. In this case, preference should be given to a moisture-resistant material that will not absorb moisture and cause mold and mildew.

Old linoleum as a substrate can only be used if it has retained its initial characteristics, and on its surface there are no visible defects - potholes, cracks, blisters and others irregularities. Any defects must either be eliminated or the idea of using the material abandoned.
