Soil is one of the most versatile construction materials. It is often used in preparatory work before painting, gluing walls with wallpaper or hard putty. The primer interacts well with materials such as wood, metal, plastic and plaster. Its main task is to maintain a strong degree of connection of the surface with the coating applied to it. In addition, the primer eliminates the formation of corrosion and other negative delaminations.

The use of a primer before painting walls carries a number of advantages:
- The surface of the wall is significantly strengthened.
- The base becomes smoother, as its small cracks and pores are filled with a soil composition. This contributes to a significant reduction in paint consumption.
- The primer promotes uniform and uniform coloring.
- The selected color of the soil in the tone of the paint will make it more saturated.
- The use of antiseptic primers in the bathroom will protect the walls from the appearance of fungal mold.

Speaking about the primer itself, most often it is presented to the consumer:
- Alkyd type - used to treat a wooden surface, increasing its lifespan. Often a special poison is added to the composition, which counteracts the formation of beetles in the wood.
- Acrylic type is a common mineral primer that is used for deep penetration. Gives adhesion to treated surfaces. It is used before applying various solutions (gypsum, cement, alabaster and others). The primer is odorless, perfectly diluted with water and dries very quickly.
- Epoxy type - is applied before processing the concrete surface with paint. Ignoring the primer process, it is very likely that the paint applied will begin to peel off and peel off after a few years.

As can be seen from the described positive qualities of the primer, its use is more a necessary measure than a preference. It is worth noting that there are alternative methods of preparatory surface treatment. They have less effective properties, but in some cases they may make it unnecessary to use soil:
- Before puttying or plastering the wall, its surface can be treated with wallpaper adhesive of low concentration;
- Emulsion primer can replace diluted PVA glue in a proportion of 1:10;
- Dilution of enamel paint in a solvent can serve as the basis for further wall painting;
- For processing wood, you can use drying oil.

All of these methods, of course, are not a complete substitute for the soil, but in some cases they can serve as an alternative that eliminates the need for a primer.
