Dampness is mainly manifested due to the fact that the temperature of the walls is much lower than the temperature of the air in the room. The solution in this case is a thorough insulation of the external walls. This is necessary so that their temperature does not differ from room temperature by more than 4 degrees. The wettest rooms in the cottage and any other house are the bathroom and kitchen. In order to get rid of excessive dampness in them, you should carefully warm these rooms, and also use a forced ventilation system. In the kitchen, it is necessary to install a hood, which helps to remove fumes from the room.

Another way to combat dampness is such an important stage in construction as vapor barrier, which involves protecting building structures from steam exiting from inside to outside. Most often, vapor barrier is used in the construction of the “pie” of roof insulation: first a vapor barrier layer is laid, then a layer of insulation, then a waterproofing roofing material.

If you do not use vapor barrier, then the moisture from the room will condense on the lower surface of the roof layer, which is hydrophobic. Vapor barrier does not allow steam from the room to penetrate the roof, thereby eliminating condensation and the formation of dampness on the roof.

Also, moisture penetrates the house through the foundation, so the vapor barrier should be laid in overlapping the floor, only in this case it is placed on top of the insulation, because the movement of moisture comes from above way down. In addition, the foundation itself must be carefully waterproofed from the ground, and the basement must be waterproofed from the foundation. In-line brick is very popular during construction, as it serves for the construction of the main load-bearing walls. It can be both hollow and full. On the side of the brick there may be a pattern or a relief, which can serve both decorative and functional properties. The cost of this brick is higher than that of silicate, but it has a higher density.

Whatever brick you choose for the construction of your house, be sure that it will serve you for more than a dozen years, because the quality of this building material has been tested for centuries.
