To understand where the electrical panel should be located, you need to understand what it is for and what is included in the standard set of the electrical panel device.

An ordinary shield is a metal box that has a vertical mounting mechanism and a door with a lock. Inside the shield are installed:
- The input switch, which must disconnect 2 cables: zero and phase, is activated automatically and can be turned off forcibly;
- RCD (residual current device) can be one or more, depending on the need. The device de-energizes the wiring in a situation of power surges;
- Grounding and zero bus. Two strips of copper on a dielectric basis. Used for safe contact of grounding and working neutral wires;
- DIN rail made of metal for mounting machines;
- Sometimes inside the shield is installed a meter for electricity consumption.

Based on the configuration of the shield, it becomes clear that its main task is to instantly de-energize the building or its individual part in order to prevent fire or other accidents.
Where it is not necessary to mount a guard
Modern shields look quite presentable, so you should not try to hide them in the basement or in the attic, and close them in the pantry or closet. There are several specific installation requirements:
- The room intended for installation should have a good natural ventilation system to avoid smoke. Forced systems in the event of a power outage stop working.
- The shield is mounted in areas of low or zero fire hazard, that is, there should not be flammable materials nearby.
- It is very important that the switches have free and easy access, guaranteeing efficient operation with the device in an emergency.
- It will not be superfluous if the work with the shield can be carried out in natural light without the need for flashlights. It is better if there is a window in the room.

Thus, it can be determined that the shield cannot be installed in rooms without air access, in low or cramped rooms, in boiler rooms or in areas with difficult access.
