What tiles should not be used in humid climates

Bitumen roll roofing or, as it is called - bituminous tile, is a flexible material, often used in the process of construction of residential buildings. It is made on the basis of fiberglass and cellulose, additionally impregnated with a bitumen mixture. Sometimes the finished roof is sprinkled with mineral granules, making it rough.

Bitumen roofing is not recommended if the house is being built in a region with high humidity and a high probability of strong gusts of wind. With prolonged exposure to moisture, algae and moss can form on its surface, which lead to the rapid destruction of integrity.

To increase the level of resistance to fire, it requires flame retardant coating. Therefore, despite the affordable cost of the material, it is worth giving preference to another type of roof. It is advisable to use bitumen in the process of building houses in a warm and even arid climate.

Installation of roofs in areas with a humid climate

The best choice would be ceramic or cement-sand tiles. The first type is characterized by durability, resistance to liquids, wind and temperature extremes. The disadvantages are the high cost and fragility of the material. For this reason, it should be mounted very carefully.

Ceramic tiles are made from natural materials by the method of processing by fire. Thanks to this, it is environmentally friendly and safe for human health. This can not be said about the bitumen roof, which is, in fact, a product of oil refining.

The second type of tile is made from pure sand and Portland cement. It is distinguished by its large weight, and therefore requires additional reinforcement of the truss structure. The advantage is the variety - the cement-sand tile in its texture can imitate natural wood, ceramic roofing and slate coating.
