Glass cutters are called special hand tools designed for cutting flat glass. From commercially available glass cutters, you can choose any model that is suitable for technical specifications. However, not all of them are suitable for cutting round holes.

Glass cutters are divided into several types, depending on the cutting element.
In classic models of glass cutters, diamond is used as a cutting element. It consists of a handle and a cutting head with a crystal of artificial diamond fixed in it. In professional tools, pyramidal diamonds are used, and household tools are equipped with crystals with curved surfaces. Diamond easily cuts sheet glass up to half a centimeter thick. Tools with natural diamonds are now almost impossible to find on sale. And the price of such a tool is very high. But its technical characteristics more than double the capabilities of a glass cutter with artificial stone.

In the most common glass cutters, carbide rollers are used as the cutting tool. There can be several rollers in the tool head that can be moved as their surfaces wear.
Oil glass cutters are a modification of roller glass cutters. To increase the resource of the edge of the cutting roller, it is equipped with an automatic lubrication system. The reservoir for it is located in the handle of the tool. Oil contributes not only to an increase in tool life, but also allows cutting more accurately and smoothly.

However, for making round holes, none of the glass cutters presented in their pure form is suitable. For these purposes, a professional tool is produced, which is rarely used in domestic conditions. It is called a glass-cutter-compass. Such a tool is a suction cup with a rod and a ruler to which a diamond or oil glass cutter is attached. The suction cup operates with a manual vacuum pump. A circular glass cutter is used to create stained-glass windows or design elements of room decor.

In addition to circular glass cutters, there are diamond and oil tools with a movable cutting head. When moving along the template, using this tool you can get cuts of any curvature, but it is not suitable for round holes.
