Paints and varnishes are to some extent toxic. Therefore, when working with them, certain safety measures must be observed:
- Wear a respirator;
- Carry out work only in a well-ventilated area;
- Work with breaks on rest in the fresh air.
But even with such measures, you can be poisoned by fumes of paint.

Symptoms of paint vapor poisoning
There is an acute and chronic form of poisoning. If the first form is observed in those who constantly inhale the vapors (symptoms such as lethargy, fatigue and depression are noted), then acute poisoning can be even in those who did not work with the paint. There are frequent cases when there was an acute poisoning with paint by neighbors. With this form, the following symptoms are observed:
- Burning eyes and tearing, often redness;
- Rapidly growing headache;
- Bad taste in the mouth;
- Acetone breath;
- Cardiopalmus;
- Dizziness;
- Failures in the intestines and stomach.

Please note that in acute poisoning, these symptoms can occur during the first hours.
First aid for paint vapor poisoning
If such symptoms are detected, an ambulance should be called immediately. And while you are expecting it, you need to provide the following measures to the victim:
- Ensure a constant flow of fresh air - open all the windows wide open, if possible, take a person to the street;
- To provide a plentiful alkaline drink, namely, to give milk or milk diluted with boiled water;
- In case of loss of consciousness, the patient must be turned on his side so that he does not choke on the vomit;
- Try to bring to consciousness by letting sniff cotton wool with liquid ammonia;
- Take sorbents that remove toxic substances from the body;
- If there is chills - cover with a warm blanket;
- Do not bring down the elevated temperature until the ambulance arrives.

The treatment of such poisoning is carried out both inpatiently and on an outpatient basis, but under the supervision of a specialist.
Help with chronic poisoning by paint vapor can only be detected by a doctor. Treatment should also take place in a hospital. The accumulated chemicals inhaled with paint are removed by taking the drugs. This process is not fast. And even after treatment, complications may remain in the form of impaired functioning of the intestines and liver, joint pain, and visual impairment. Therefore, never neglect safety measures and be careful when neighbors make repairs.
