If there is a desire to divide the room into functional zones or make it visually more spacious, then you can use multi-level gypsum plasterboard ceilings. With their help, you can create unique and original interiors.

Next, we will talk about what are multi-level plasterboard ceilings, what positive and negative sides they have and how they are installed.

Characteristic features of multi-level plasterboard ceilings
Multilevel plasterboard ceilings are frame structures consisting of panels and modules. The distance formed between the base ceiling and the suspension system creates the illusion of additional free space.
It is not surprising that gypsum board is used to create multi-level ceiling structures, because it has special flexibility. Thanks to this, even the most complex suspension systems can be constructed from it.

Advantages of multi-level drywall ceilings
Such systems have a lot of advantages, but the main ones are the following points:
- Multilevel plasterboard ceilings are able to change the geometry of the premises, as well as create the illusion of additional free space in it;
- Using such structures, it is possible to hide defects and irregularities in the base ceilings, even when this cannot be achieved using other types of ceiling systems;
- Multilevel drywall systems allow you to hide communications that pass through the base ceiling, for example, wiring, various pipes, elements of ventilation systems, and so on;
- Using such designs, living spaces can be divided into separate functional areas, such as a dining room, a recreation area, an entrance hall and others;
- With the help of multi-level drywall systems, it is possible to create high-quality lighting of premises, which is provided by the possibility of embedding lamps in such structures. In a similar way create the effect of the "starry sky";
- Plasterboard multi-level systems can be painted in any color, which allows designers to show their creative abilities.

disadvantages
Not only multilevel plasterboard ceilings, but also all other finishing and building materials cannot do without them. However, there are few drawbacks to such ceiling systems:
- Installation of multi-level plasterboard ceilings should be performed only by professionals. It is practically unrealistic to do such a job on its own because of its multi-stage, duration and laboriousness;
- Plasterboard multi-level structures, unlike other types of ceiling systems, weigh a lot. One square meter can weigh 15 kg.

Installation technology for multi-level plasterboard ceiling
Installation of such a design always begins with drawing up a drawing and carrying out all necessary measurements. To fix the elements of drywall, a metal-profile frame system is usually created.

If we talk about mounting the frame on the walls, then it represents the following sequence of steps:
- Given the size of the lighting fixtures and the height of the base ceiling, a horizontal line is drawn on the walls along the perimeter of the room;
- In the next step, mounting holes are drilled;
- Using dowels, according to previously applied markings, a guide profile is fixed;
- The installation of longitudinal and transverse elements of the supporting system, supplemented by stiffeners;
- Drywall sheets are attached to the metal profile using self-tapping screws.

The installation of the metal profile frame to the ceiling and walls (for large rooms) is carried out as follows:
- As in the previous case, markings are made on the walls;
- Mounting holes are drilled on the ceiling and walls, where expansion dowels are inserted;
- Suspensions are attached to the ceilings with the obligatory adjustment of their length. This will allow you to get even bearing profiles;
- The final stage is the installation of the supporting profile and the subsequent fastening of drywall sheets on it.
Multilevel gypsum plasterboard ceilings are modernity, simplicity and aesthetics.
