How to calculate the tile stock for different laying methods

The speed and quality of work depends on the correct calculation of the amount of finishing materials needed to repair an apartment. Applicable to tiles, this will save money and time required to search for products suitable for previously purchased material by color, type and brand of the manufacturer.

When calculating the number of tiles, in addition to the area of ​​the room, you need to know the number of pieces in pieces. To do this, you need to build on their actual size. In addition to whole tiles, it is necessary to take into account the trimming of individual elements, which will inevitably be required due to the presence of irregularities or obstacles in the room. Given these circumstances, tiles should always be bought with a margin. It should be at least ten percent of the total material.

There are no general formulas for determining the number of tiles. Regardless of the installation method, the area of ​​the room is first determined. It is formed by multiplying the perimeter of the walls by the height of the room. From the resulting number, subtract the area occupied by windows and doors. Then calculate the area of ​​the tile, which will be directly laid in the room. Its width is multiplied by height, getting the desired value. Then, the area of ​​the room is divided by the surface area of ​​the tile, and the number of whole ceramic elements is obtained. The total amount of material should be increased by ten percent.

If the owner of the apartment decided to lay the tiles on the diagonal of the room, the calculation is carried out in a similar way. However, the amount of material should be increased not by ten, but by fifteen percent. It depends on the fact that in places of contact with the corners of the walls or floor, the tile has to be cut into two parts. It should be remembered that when receiving a fractional value of the number of tiles, it should always increase in a larger direction.

In some cases, for clarity, you can prepare a large-scale plan for laying tiles. To do this, take a large sheet of paper and draw on it a plan of each of the walls of the room. At the same time, they observe a certain scale. For example, ten centimeters in the drawing will correspond to one meter of the room. After that, also observing the scale, on the walls indicate the layout of the tiles. Such a technique will allow not only to accurately calculate the required number of tiles, but also to determine the location of the cut elements that affect the overall appearance of the room.
