What is a bitumen primer?
Liquid bitumen, which is applied under the main coating - this is the primer. They treat the surface before laying the actual waterproofing material. After the solvent has evaporated, the primer turns into a thin strong film and improves the adhesion of the main layer of bitumen to the treated surface. Bitumen primer is not inferior in quality to epoxy or polyurethane and at the same time several times cheaper.
A method of preparing a primer from bitumen
The primer preparation technology is quite simple:
- Cold bitumen must be broken into small pieces. It is better to do this in the cold, at low temperatures, bitumen becomes quite fragile and pricks easily.
- The poured bitumen is placed in a metal container and poured with a solvent. Typically, diesel fuel, diesel fuel, or used motor oil are used for this purpose. The liquid should completely cover the bitumen.
- When the bitumen dissolves, the liquid in the tank will turn black. The primer should be filtered from inclusions and insoluble bites.
Gasoline as a solvent
Gasoline is used to dissolve bitumen when time is running out. Nobody can forbid you to breed such a primer, especially if it is a private low-rise construction. But you should consider all the risks of such an operation.
Gasoline is volatile, and most of it evaporates during cooking. And the technology involves the use of a hot composition, that is, the evaporation will increase. The risk of poisoning in pairs increases. At the same time, it becomes dangerous to use metal objects, because the slightest claim can lead to fire.
However, the use of gasoline is possible. Bitumen grade BNI - 1U GOST 9812 is taken and melted. Then the composition should be cooled to a temperature of 700. Chilled bitumen is poured into a metal container with gasoline in small portions. The mixture should be mixed with a plastic or wooden stick in order to prevent the appearance of a spark from friction of the metal. Proportions for mixing 1 to 2 for concrete surfaces, 1 to 3 for metal.
