Every garden owner wants to get a high yield. For this, some efforts must be made, and certain knowledge and skills will also be required. Beginning gardeners most often have errors when pruning grapes, and this leads to a significant reduction in the possible yield. You should not learn from your mistakes, because it is enough to be a little prudent, especially since, as a rule, they are all of the same type.

Incorrect pruning of shoots
Many vineyards, especially beginners and inexperienced, believe that it is best to leave the thickest shoots when pruning, supposedly they are stronger and more stable. At the same time, others, on the contrary, get rid of them to enable the development of new shoots.

That's right: in fact, none of them is right, the fact is that, first of all, those shoots that have already been thawed should be cut, do it in the fall, after harvesting. These shoots will yield a very low yield next year, therefore it is better to get rid of them. The same should be done with branches that are too thick bush. After trimming, you should have a booth with several perennial shoots and new ones that have grown this year.

Tops
Many vineyards cut only the topmost shoots, and very slightly. Every year, in this case, the bush will become denser, the yield will fall, because the shoots will not receive enough light, the vine becomes thinner.

Remember that with annual autumn pruning, at least 50% of the growth should be removed.

Pruning time
Many people cannot correctly choose the time for grape pruning, someone does it in the spring, someone in the early or late autumn. In fact, this procedure should be done exclusively in late autumn, a maximum of a month after leaf fall. If you grow frost-resistant varieties, you can cut them a little later, but you can do this before the air temperature drops below -3 degrees, otherwise the vine will freeze and form on it cracks.

Descendants
In fact, these are second-order shoots, they should not be left on the bush. It is they that become the cause of the weakening of the bush during fruiting, the growth of the main shoots will significantly slow down. Remove the stepsons after a couple of leaves have grown, after which the shoot is plucked over them.
