Algae, which includes kelp (sea kale) - living organisms that inhabit the waters of the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. There are more than 30,000 species of algae, but not all of them are pleasant to taste. On the shelves of Russian stores you can see mainly seaweed processed in various ways (dry, pickled, frozen).

In countries of Southeast Asia, especially in Japan and China, kelp is adored. This gastronomic love has a positive effect on the health of Asians, who are famous throughout the world for their longevity and energy. And it is not at all surprising, because seaweed contains a large amount of iodine, which is responsible for metabolism and cell growth. To satisfy the daily requirement of the body for iodine, it is enough to eat only 50 grams of kelp. Doctors believe that a person provided with iodine is not threatened with thyroid disease.

The benefits of seaweed are not limited to a high iodine content. Surprisingly: this algae is 88% water, and at the same time it contains a lot of valuable vitamins, minerals and organic acids. Also in the composition of kelp are phytohormones and complete protein.

Separately, it is worth highlighting such a component of seaweed as alginate acid. This substance is a natural thickener and is used in cooking. Alginates have anticarcinogenic effect, bind and remove heavy metals and radionuclides, protects the body from harmful radiation. Agar-agar, known to confectioners, also a derivative of kelp, is an alternative to gelatin, useful for joints.

In addition, kelp is low-calorie, suitable for people suffering from excess weight and dieting. 100 grams of seaweed contains from 25 to 40 kcal, depending on the type of processing.

Here's how seaweed acts on the body:
- Lowers cholesterol and sugar;
- Normalizes blood pressure;
- Relieves nervous tension;
- Strengthens the immune system and regulates the water-salt balance;
- Helps the intestines, fights constipation;
- Removes accumulated mucus and parasites from the body;
- Reduces the risk of cancer;
- Improves blood composition, preventing the development of atherosclerosis;
- It has a beneficial effect on the reproductive system, increases libido in women and men;
- Stimulates brain function, increases concentration.

Laminaria is actively used in spa salons. Its biological composition allows for anti-aging, firming and tonic treatments. At home, it is easy to make a mask of seaweed for any type of skin. To do this, take half a teaspoon of dried kelp, the same amount of cosmetic clay and one tablespoon of boiled water. All ingredients are mixed and applied to the face. Then they wait until the mask has completely dried and washed off.

This marine wealth must be included in the diet for people who care about their health and appearance. But sometimes a person has an increased iodine content in the body. In this case, kelp is contraindicated for him. Algae should also be used with caution when there are serious kidney diseases or a stomach ulcer.
