Wall decoration is a necessary stage of any repair. Homeowners and experienced developers have relatively recently chosen traditional options for this. The surface was plastered, papered, or trimmed with panels of wood or plastic. Decorative wall decoration has become more diverse today. Paint and varnish and other materials began to give way to universal textural paints, with which you can create fancy patterns and original textured designs.

Textured paint is not just a specific paint material having certain characteristics. Under this name is a whole group of compounds that can be used to obtain a textured finish. A kind of water dispersion paint, for example, is a texture material that has very small specialized fillers in its composition. The relief coating is obtained due to the high viscosity of such a paint.

Application Methods
Texture paint can be applied to the surface of walls using various technologies. If it is, for example, small or hard-to-reach areas, the easiest way is to use a brush. In doing so, make sure that the surface, paint container and brush are perfectly clean. Only in this way adhesion to the paint surface will be maximum. Before applying the paint is mixed, achieving a uniform consistency. In the vertical direction, the first coat of paint is applied. Traces of the brush that remain on the surface are aligned with a second layer - horizontal strokes. The third layer is applied with vertical strokes.

Long-lasting and reliable finish can be obtained by using a roller for applying textured paint. In this case, an acrylic paint having a latex base is the best option, since it is the most resistant to further shedding. After mixing the composition and obtaining a homogeneous consistency, two layers of paint are applied to the wall with a roller. In the first, the movement of the tool goes from bottom to top, in the second - vice versa.

The least time-consuming and quick application of textured paint will be when using a spray gun. On a dry and previously cleaned wall, paint must also be sprayed in two layers. The directions of the layers should also be opposite. The wall painted in this way dries completely a day after the end of work.
Advantages and disadvantages
Textured paints are not affected by mold and are resistant to moisture, so they can be used in the decoration of the bathroom or kitchen. In outdoor works, such compounds are also used, as they are resistant to ultraviolet radiation, they are well resistant to aggressive climatic influences. The service life of the coating is large, while the decorative and physical characteristics remain unchanged.

Modern textured paints are created only from safe components. They cannot harm the environment or humans. The pluses also include the ability of textured paints to mask irregularities, voids and cracks on the base surface. Preliminary preparation of the wall is minimal. The desired shade of the composition can be given by adding a special color scheme.

Acrylic polymers, which are part of many textured paints, have not only high decorative characteristics, but also significant practical value. They mask the irregularities and fill microcracks. In addition, when processing such wall compositions in the room, an optimal level of humidity is created, since paints are able to regulate this air parameter.

Against the background of many advantages, the existing disadvantages turn out to be almost invisible. When planning to use textured materials, for example, it should be borne in mind that such processing of walls visually reduces the space of a room. This is promoted by both protruding elements and a sufficiently thick layer of the material itself. However, the right choice of color eliminates this conditional lack of textured paints.

Popular textured finishes
Depending on the combinations and proportions of the fillers, you can get several types of finishes with textured paints. In particular, when quartz chips and sawdust are added, a surface with the effect of a certain relief is obtained. By adjusting the particle size of the additives, you can create the desired relief of the wall.
Very popular is the decoration with textured paints in the style of "misuri". After drying, the surface has a glossy shine. To achieve this effect, modified starch and water are added to the base composition.

Velvet structure and unique optical effect distinguishes the “Atakama” finish. The acrylic base in this case is supplemented in certain proportions with metal filings and quartz sand.
