In fact, it already exists. This is vinyl nitrile foam. It is very widely used in the USA. It is extremely fire resistant and allows water to pass through only the first 6-8% of its thickness.
It is proved that this water quickly disperses, does not contribute to the formation of mold and does not spoil the material.
American vinyl nitrile foam is a blocker and absorber that is extremely resistant to external influences. As a rule, its thickness is from 6 mm to 5 cm, but it was found that in most cases, the optimal option is 1.27 cm. Vinyl nitrile foam of this thickness is attached directly to the walls, ceiling, and sometimes even to the floor. This ensures full coverage of the room and the sound will be completely absorbed.
This material was also tested from the outside of the buildings, where it was exposed to the environment. Manufacturers do not recommend using it in this way, especially if contact with snow is possible. However, reviews of this use were good. Vinyl nitrile foam was used in the cities of Boston, New York, Oceanside (California) and Kansas City, and all reviews were positive. The thicker the foam, the better the results, but 1.27 cm thick should be enough for basic use. There are many other uses for this material, one of the most popular is shooting ranges.
