Excessive humidity in the home negatively affects the well-being of a person, it also harms furniture, things, laminate flooring and other items. In these conditions, fungi and mold spread, which adversely affect the respiratory system, and the body's allergic reaction. It can also provoke cancer and other serious diseases. In order to maintain an acceptable level of air humidity in your home and in utility rooms, you must have an air dehumidifier. The purchased device is quite expensive, but this device can be made with your own hands.

Dehumidifiers sold in retail chains differ in functionality, level of efficiency and operational reliability. The main details of such devices:
- fan;
- evaporator;
- container for collecting water;
- capacitor;
- control Panel.
The principle of operation of such devices is as follows:
- The fan draws room air into the evaporator.
- A sharp drop in temperature inside the device leads to the fact that the moisture in the air turns into a liquid state and flows into the collection container.
- After filling the container for moisture, it is removed from the device through the drainage pipes.
- The dried air passes through the radiator and is removed from the device, pre-warming up with a high temperature.
It would seem that to reduce the humidity in the room, it is enough just to increase the air temperature. But this can greatly dry it out, which is just as bad as waterlogged air.
Note! The correct air desiccant should not overdry it too much. For control, you can put a purchased hygrometer into a homemade device.
What materials and tools will be required
To make an absorption dehumidifier with your own hands, you will need the following tools and items:
- two-liter plastic bottles - 2 pieces;
- knitting needle, needle or nail;
- a box of matches or a lighter;
- scissors or knife;
- Scotch;
- sealant;
- scissors;
- gloves for work;
- substance for absorption;
- fan.
Silica gel is obtained as the absorption substance. It can be used many times, just dry it after use. Moreover, its properties are not lost. 200 g of absorbent is enough for one device.
You can use a mobile phone charger, rechargeable battery or regular batteries as power for the fan.
Important points when assembling the device
When choosing the model of the dryer to be assembled, it should be taken into account that the condensation dryer air not only removes high humidity, but can also reduce the air temperature by about 5 degrees. Therefore, when using it, you should turn on the heater. The installation should be carried out in such a way that the air currents intersect.
An important point! When organizing dehumidification of air, the total humidity of the room should be determined so that too much dehumidification does not occur. In the room in which the humidity exceeds the threshold of 70%, dehumidification must be carried out.
A self-made device does not always look beautiful, therefore it is usually used for premises intended for household purposes.
Dehumidifier for an apartment yourself: step by step instructions
There are several options for making your own air dryers. The simplest one is to make this device from plastic bottles.
Option 1
You will need 2 plastic bottles (each volume is 2 liters). Holes are made in the bottom of one of the bottles with the help of a nail or knitting needle heated over a fire. Then it is cut across with scissors, approximately in the middle.
Holes are made in the upper half and tightened with a lid. Then turn it over and place it inside the lower half. An absorbent is poured into the upper part (silica gel can be used). Enough about 250 g of this product.
The bottom of the second bottle is cut off, and a fan is attached at a height of 10 cm from the edge of the lower cut. The air jet is directed in the opposite direction from the neck. You can use a regular small fan or computer cooler.
Then another cut-bottom bottle is inserted into the absorbent container. The joints of the parts are pasted over with tape.
Although this device is a fairly straightforward device, it can help to cope with increased importance. Moreover, the costs for its manufacture (time, physical and financial) are very low.
It can be placed in the children's room or in the bedroom. If you put a decorative cover on the bottle or make decoupage, you can get an original decorative element.
Option 2
A dehumidifier can be made from a refrigerator. The main condition is for the compressor to work. All doors should be unscrewed from it. Plexiglass is cut in the shape of the door. In the middle of it, a hole is cut out in size equal to the ventilation grill. At the next stage, a fan is mounted in it so that air enters the inside of the refrigerator. This can be done using self-tapping screws. All joints must be sealed with silicone sealant.
Then small holes are drilled into the top of the plexiglass. Instead, you can attach a second fan, just put it the other way around, so that air is blown out of the refrigerator.
A small container is placed inside the device to collect condensate moisture. To collect condensate, connect the branch pipe above the compressor with this container using a hose. All joints are sealed hermetically using silicone or ordinary tape.
The dehumidifier can now be turned on. The fan and the refrigerator are switched on simultaneously. This dehumidifier can reduce indoor humidity by about 10%. The main disadvantage is the large volume of the device.
Basement dehumidifier
To dry out the air in the basement, you can make a device from materials sold in the plumbing department of the store. You should purchase a sewer tee with a diameter of 110 cm.
At the bottom of the tee, a plug with holes made in it is twisted. In the side hole of the revision cover, the plug must be threaded. A hole is made in it for the size of the fan. You should purchase a fan with a capacity of about 95 cubic meters per hour. It is securely installed in the hole of the plug, and screwed into the tee.
Then, on the inner surface of the sewer tee, a metal mesh coated with a fine fabric mesh is installed. After that, the inside is filled with an adsorbent (silicone gel). Such an adsorbent is produced in the form of granules, inside of which there are pores. Moisture collects inside the granules. The finished device holds approximately 1 kg of silicone gel.
The finished device for the cellar is attached with a clamp to the wall. After installing it, you can turn on the network. One hour of work is enough for all the air in the basement to pass through this device.
This amount of the product is capable of absorbing up to 0.5 kg of moisture from the air, which settles inside the adsorbent in 1 hour of operation. After that, the gel can be dried in the microwave, turning it on for 10 minutes, and then the product can be reused.
