This leaves a cleaner job for the towels. Also, products will get less dirty if they are regularly changed. It is recommended to put a woven cloth in the wash every 2 - 3 days (this is influenced by the frequency of cooking), as long as there is little dirt and it is not strongly ingested.
The choice of how to wash your kitchen towels depends on the color and quality of the fabrics. For white products, powders and liquid products with a whitening effect are suitable, the temperature for washing should be set at 60 - 90 degrees. Colored items cannot be washed with the addition of chlorine-containing products, the temperature for them must be lower (40 - 60 degrees).
It is better to whiten kitchen towels at home no more than once a month. Whitening agents noticeably weaken the fibers of the fabric and accelerate the wear of the garments.
It will be possible to wash the towels from old stains if they are soaked beforehand. Laundry detergent, laundry soap, stain remover, dishwashing detergent, salt, soda are added to the solution. So food and fat particles absorb moisture and are better removed in contact with detergents. After drying, a clean towel should be ironed with an iron. It will look neater, and it will not get dirty longer.
How to clean kitchen towels with home remedies
Unfortunately, after washing by hand or in a typewriter, the fabric does not always look the way we would like it to. Some of the stains remain. The most difficult to remove are rust, mold, traces of coffee, tea, bright fruits and tomatoes. Here are some tips on how to clean kitchen towels at home without harsh chemicals or boiling.
Laundry soap
This tool has been proven for decades. There are several options for how to use it:
- Thoroughly lather a towel, put it in a plastic bag and leave it there for a while (from 1 hour to 8 hours). Then wash as usual in the washing machine. With prolonged contact with cloth, the soap particles are better at removing food debris and grease.
- An even greater effect will be if the soapy towel is warmed up. This can be done in a bag in a microwave oven (do not close the bag tightly, use power 500 W, time 1.5 - 2 minutes).
- Grate soap (for 1 liter of water, you need about 2 tbsp. l.), soak towels in this solution before washing.
- In the same solution, you can boil towels and a cloth tablecloth over low heat for 0.5 - 2 hours, before that it is better to wash the cloth.
- You can add crushed laundry soap directly to the washing machine and most of the stains will disappear.
Table vinegar
Washing kitchen towels with 9% vinegar refreshes and removes unpleasant odors. This is important because the fabric absorbs most of the odors in the kitchen. The longer the towel is wet, the more pronounced the damp smell is. Therefore, dry the towel thoroughly before placing it in the laundry basket.
Odors do not always disappear after a normal wash. The vinegar is added to the conditioner compartment in a volume of 0.5 cups. If the towel has already been washed, but the rotten smell remains, put it in a solution of vinegar and water (in equal proportions) for 5 - 10 minutes, then rinse well and dry.
Rust marks on fabric can be removed with vinegar. It is poured onto the stain for a quarter of an hour, vinegar is rubbed with a brush. Then the item is washed and washed.

Baking soda
Sodium hydroxide enhances the effect of washing powders. It can be added to soapy water to soak things. Put 1 tbsp on 1 liter of water. l. baking soda. If you add it during rinsing, the laundry will get rid of foreign odors and become whiter. This method is not recommended for colored textiles, as colors may fade.
If a thicker mixture is prepared, the contaminated part is treated with it, then kept for 30 minutes.
Salt
Saline solution (1 tbsp. l. salt per 1 liter of water) is suitable for colored towels. The stains are better washed off after salt treatment, and the colors remain bright.
Salt removes coffee stains well. A towel or tablecloth with such contamination is soaked in a saline solution for 1 hour, and then washed.
If salt is sprinkled on a greasy stain right away, it will absorb into most of the oil. It remains to shake off the salt and wash the product. This measure is also effective for fresh berry contamination, traces of wine.
Vegetable oil
A well-proven method for soaking kitchen towels in hot detergent solution before washing with the addition of vegetable oil. To prepare it, you need to bring 5 liters of water to a boil. Add to it 2 tbsp. l. any vegetable oil (it is important that it does not have a pronounced odor, it is refined), laundry powder and baking soda. You can also add the same amount of whitening agent. Mix well and pour this mixture over dry towels in a bowl. Mix everything with tongs, cover with plastic, leave for several hours (most conveniently overnight). During this time, periodically stir and wrinkle the towels. Then drain the liquid, and wash the fabrics as usual in the washing machine.
After such a procedure, the towels become much whiter and cleaner, and old stains are removed. You should not use this method for colored products (may shed) and for synthetic fabrics (yellow tint may appear).
Lemon acid
This remedy removes red spots from beets, tomatoes and fruits. Fresh dirt is removed better. Sprinkle citric acid powder on them, rub in lightly, after 5 minutes rinse under water and wash as usual. Old stains should be kept on longer, about 1 hour. Like vinegar, lemon acid gives a fresh scent to laundry. It is also poured into the washing machine in the amount of 1 tbsp. l.
Silicate glue
Its other names are liquid glass, stationery or office glue. Sodium or potassium silicate is even added to laundry detergents to remove impurities. White fabrics can be removed from stains by boiling in a soapy solution with the addition of 1 tbsp. l. silicate glue. Next, wash the kitchen towels as usual. We rinse thoroughly.
Mustard powder
Use mustard powder to wash the kitchen towels. It will clean all stains and whiten the fabric. A mixture of mustard powder and water (as thick as sour cream) is applied to the contaminated areas. Withstand 5 minutes - 1 hour, rinse with water, wash the fabric product along with other towels.
To achieve a whitening effect, a liquid solution is prepared: a whole pack of mustard powder is poured into a large container with water (2 tbsp. l. for 1 liter of water). Stir, filter through cheesecloth to retain undissolved particles. The washed towels are immersed there, left for 3 hours, rinsed under running water. This method gets rid of the yellowness of the tissue, as well as many microbes.

Other means
The whitening effect is possessed by:
- A solution of potassium permanganate: for cooking, put a few crystals of potassium permanganate in cheesecloth, dipped in hot water and hold until a slightly pink color is obtained. The gauze does not allow crystals to pass through, which, if they come into contact with the fabric, can stain it. Add the powder there, lower the towels. The effect will be stronger if the bowl with the textiles is covered with a foil and left to cool. After a few hours, rinse in cold water.
- In a solution of hydrogen peroxide (2 tbsp. spoons for 6 liters of hot water) put washed towels for half an hour, rinse with running water. You can drip a clean solution of peroxide directly onto the site of contamination. Do not use on colored towels.
Remove stains will help:
- Shampoo if the stain is from fruit juice. Apply a few drops of shampoo to a dirty place, rub in, wait. Rinse with water and wash.
- Dishwashing liquid if oil stain. Apply pointwise to dirt, wash after a while. If you plan to put the towel in the machine further, you should rinse off the rest of the product well so that it does not foam too much.
- Glycerin with ammonia will remove colorants from coffee and tea. 2 tbsp. l. ammonia and 8 tablespoons of glycerin, dilute with water, soak a towel for 1 hour, wash. You can just use ammonia (2 tsp. l. for 1 liter of water). Hold towels in this solution for 1 hour before washing.
- Boric acid 2 tbsp. l. pour into a soapy solution for soaking. After 3 hours, send the kitchen textiles to the washing machine.
- The stain removers are applied to the stain for 15 minutes before washing, add the product to the soap solution in which the towels are soaked, or to the machine during washing.
When using aggressive agents (citric acid, vinegar, ammonia), one should not forget about protective equipment for the hands and the respiratory system. Do this carefully so that no substance gets into your eyes. If necessary, wash the mucous membranes under running water.
As you can see, you can choose any washing algorithm. Every woman has an arsenal of proven effective remedies. So the ultimate goal of clean, tidy towels is achievable. A little effort is justified, the main thing is that the towels will be beautiful and always at hand.
