The kitchen is located in a standard panel house, the footage is small, so I had to think carefully, to create a functional, ergonomic and comfortable space so that it does not suffer appearance.
The renovation began with the purchase of household kitchen appliances. A thousand dollars was spent on an oven and hob, extractor hood, and floor and wall trimmings. Of course, there was a desire to implement an eco-style in the apartment, the result was very close to the desired one. We did the work independently, they didn’t involve outside specialists in order to save money. Moreover, the owner himself provides apartment renovation services.
The first idea that came to my mind was to create furniture from plywood. From the bases, drawers to the headset facades, everything is made of this material. A bold decision, since it was not completely clear what would be the result. But with the help of designers, we managed to visualize the result.
Dismantling took a little time. The owner of the house with his son vacated all surfaces in a week, it took the same amount of time to remove Soviet paint from the walls, they were painted back in 1976. Permission was obtained to cut gas pipes and install a meter next to the countertop. During this time, all electrical wiring, sockets, switches were also replaced.
It was decided to sheathe the ceiling with plasterboard, into which three lamps with LED lamps were embedded.
The leveling of the walls and the laying of the tiles took approximately seven days. The ventilation shaft was complemented by an exhaust fan for $ 70. It took another week to screed the floor and tiling the surface.
There were some minor problems with hanging the blinds on the window. If you mount them on the wall, the refrigerator door does not open, and the installation of the system directly on the window opening did not allow opening the transom. The solution was found - they simply cut out a niche in the wall, where the blinds, when folded, fit successfully. The window sill was finished with plywood.
The walls were plastered, frayed and painted. The corner was successfully used, a magic corner was placed there. It cost $ 250, bought in Poland to order.
A sink with a tap cost $ 300.
I had to make a metal frame from pipes for the refrigerator and drawers. This is due to the fact that the heating pipes run near the wall, and it was not possible to install the unit with furniture close to the wall. The frame was cooked by the owner himself; specialists were involved in processing.
All furniture is made of large format plywood. The owner of the apartment was engaged in sawing, grinding, varnishing, this work took two weeks and $ 300. The project required plywood, varnish, sandpaper and auxiliary tools and materials.
The work surface and the table top for the dining table are made of acrylic. $ 1,100 was paid for the manufacture of elements, including the incision of the sink. Installed high-quality fittings, it cost $ 400. Upper cabinets without handles have a slight overhang with a saw cut at an angle of 45 degrees. The lower tier is decorated with handles purchased from Ikea.
Microwave made in Poland, refrigerator and TV were ordered in the online store. About $ 1100 was spent on this technique.
Small items were purchased from Ikea - a dish dryer, roof rails, jars, lamps, as well as stools and underframe. The expenses include spending on cutlery. The bench is also made of plywood and fittings, fixed to the wall. The owner and his son installed it with their own hands.
The atmosphere in the kitchen is pleasant, it is comfortable and warm to be here. The table can accommodate up to six people. Currently, the kitchen is not yet fully decorated, the hostess plans to place the pillows on the bench, which have already been ordered from Ikea. An elegant picture will be hung on a large wall, which will complement the image of the kitchen.
According to the expert, who was the director of the design and interior studio Daria Lapitskaya, the interior looks much more attractive in person than in photographs and visualizations. The white tiles that cover the wall next to the work area go well with the dark wall. The only drawback is that there is too much dark color, it absorbs light, and there is a feeling of lack of light. This can be corrected by hanging a large painting in light colors on the wall.
A few words should be said about lighting. There is clearly not enough natural light in the room, so artificial lighting sources are used. From a design point of view, the space is somewhat incomplete, this is due to the fact that illumination of the working area few. The space is dominated by horizontal lamps that divide the space. There is a feeling that the ceiling is lower than it really is.
Two dark walls for a small room is a lot, the space is washed out. It was enough to leave the main wall dark, diluting it with a light picture, and make the second in a light tone. Decor will help to fix the situation. For example, you can hang a bright colored cornice around the perimeter of the room, which will enliven the kitchen. Alternatively, dishes of juicy colors or bright textiles will add liveliness to the interior.
