What gasoline to fill in a chainsaw?
Firstly, it must be said that the brand of oil and which gasoline is best for your chainsaw is written in the instructions for it. Manufacturers always indicate this in the technical specifications of the device.
We recommend pouring unleaded, high-octane and fresh AI-92 gasoline into the chainsaw.
Gasoline vanishes. If it is left for four months, and then poured into the engine, it will affect performance. During this period of inactivity, gasoline decomposes so much that it starts to burn / ignite 30% worse. Stale fuel produces more carbon deposits and is more explosive, so use only fresh fuel.
The chainsaw engine is not prepared to operate with low octane and leaded fuels. The use of such gasoline will greatly shorten the life of the saw. It may also increase the wear of parts, the possibility of an explosion. If you use such fuel, take breaks more often.
Why is AI-92 poured into chainsaws?
Chainsaw engines are low-power, not all types of fuel are suitable for them. That is, their internal combustion engine works with gasoline, in which only certain impurities. If there are other impurities or a different ratio, it can lead to an explosion. For example, AI-95 is high-octane, high-quality, elite gasoline. AI-95 is better in terms of safety - it has impurities that prevent it from detonating. But because of these same impurities, the performance of the chainsaw engine can decrease and the wear of the elements can accelerate. You can draw a parallel between pouring such gasoline into a saw and using rocket oil in a car.
Use of lower octane fuel is prohibited due to the risk of explosion.
Choice of chainsaw oil
We also advise you to look at the instructions. Everything the user needs to know is indicated there: what gasoline to fill in, what oil to use, when to carry out an inspection, what and when to replace, and more.
If there is no instruction, you can use our tips for choosing chainsaw oil:
- Use a different density of oil, depending on the time of year and temperature.
- Do not pour in oil for four-stroke engines - you will break the engine.
- In the warm season, chainsaw oil should be with metal additives.
- Distinguish oils by color: green - synthetics, blue - semi-synthetics, red - minerals.
- In winter, use synthetic analogues - synthetic oils freeze at -30 / -40, mineral oils already at -20.
How to prepare a fuel mixture for a chainsaw
- Take a measuring container - it is better to use a translucent plastic bottle with markings from under oils / products, in them you will see how the liquids are mixed, and you will not need to pour again fuel.
- Fill it with fresh, high-octane, unleaded gasoline and oil at a ratio of 50 to 1 (some models need 40 to 1), where 50 is the ratio for gasoline, 1 for oil.
- Shake/stir the mixture. It should be the same color.
- Pour fuel into the chainsaw tank.
