Drywall carrier. How to carry it yourself - Setafi

Drywall - Affordable, but not the most durable material. It is a thin and dimensional plate, which is not always convenient to carry by hand, even together. To facilitate transportation indoors and on site, a special drywall carrier is used. There are other types of equipment - they are described in detail in the presented article.

Carry requirements

Often, even at home, the question arises of how to transfer drywall to one or two. Doing this manually is not always possible, so you have to use special tools. Tools should be as light as possible and meet several requirements:

  • reliable fixation of already cut or solid sheets;
  • the ability to rise to a certain height (preferably in a horizontal position);
  • a device for carrying drywall should have handles for convenient operation;
  • the ability to hold the free edge during installation.

Types of carriers

There are quite a few types of carrying equipment in use today. If the amount of work is large, you will need a drywall cart. But at home, you can get by with simpler tools:

  • carrying handles: light, compact, but allow you to transport only a few sheets;
  • lifts: provide vertical movement, which is important when performing ceiling work;
  • equipment for fixing sheets, thanks to which you can conveniently cut, make cuts, holes.

Carrying handles

This is the simplest, most inexpensive, and therefore the most popular do-it-yourself tool for carrying sheet materials. Only 1-2 fragments can be transferred at a time, but it is convenient to do this, the weight is evenly distributed throughout the frame.

It is important to understand that carrying handles often have to be used only by two people - for this they are equipped with 2 handles. The tool for carrying sheet materials is usually equipped with a plastic body and a rubber pad. Moreover, some types, for example, as in the photo, are suitable for one person.

trolleys

If there is a lot of material, the question arises of how to transfer drywall, and not only qualitatively, but also quickly. Such equipment in itself is massive and overall, but can transport several tens and even hundreds of kg of material (usually up to 400 kg).

The laying principle is uniform - all sheets are placed on the edges so that they take up as little space as possible. At the same time, a slope is formed at a slight angle for additional stability. Do-it-yourself grip for carrying sheet materials is carried out at a convenient height. After that, it is transported on a trolley to any place.

Mounting supports

While a drywall carrying handle makes it easy to carry sheets to the right place, mounting supports serve a different purpose. They fix the plate in a vertical position. Such devices have a stop that can be raised to any height. Thanks to this, it is convenient to fasten different sheets to each other, make holes or cuts.

There are other types of supports, which are ordinary clamps. They not only support the sheet in a vertical position, but also keep it motionless. Although at the same time the height is small - about 80 cm, so the master has to bend down during work.

A more convenient option is when the latch is equipped with a simple pedal mechanism. By pressing the pedal, you can adjust the desired height. But in practice, such mechanisms are rarely used.

Frame lifts

Carrying for sheet materials is also carried out with the help of frame lifts. This is a professional equipment that allows you to transport elements both vertically and horizontally. It can also be used to fix sheets and carry out installation work.

If necessary, carry out a vertical rise to a height within 3 m, i.e. one floor. It's much easier and faster than carrying them up the stairs. On average, the carrying capacity of such installations is 50 kg, and their own weight is 2 times less.

Carrier for sheet materials

Working with the equipment is quite simple, but it is quite expensive. It is advisable to purchase installations only in case of professional need. If the repair is at home, it is quite possible to cope on your own.

Thus, for home repairs, it is easier to purchase a drywall grip and carrying handle. These are the most common and affordable devices that even one person can use. But if the amount of work is large, it is worth considering professional equipment that allows you to both transport sheets and fix them during installation.
