Heating battery in the apartment: how to turn it off and on, recommendations - Setafi

There are several ways to turn off the heating battery in an apartment. If you want to reduce the temperature, close only one tap, which is located below. But there are also cases when both valves are closed at once. How to do this so as not to harm the battery and the heating system is described in detail in the material presented.

How to cover up when it's hot

Most often, the question of how to close the battery arises due to the fact that the apartment is too hot. In this case, you can completely turn off the radiator in one or more rooms (but only if there are taps). In the normal position, both of them are open - the valves are parallel to the pipes, as shown in the photo.

How to block the battery in the apartment

It is not difficult to understand how to shut off a heating radiator - just move the valve to a position perpendicular to the pipe. But at the same time, it is extremely important to follow an important rule. Both taps must not be closed at the same time. In this case, a vacuum gradually forms inside the battery, the pressure decreases. Therefore, after a few months, at best, it will begin to deform, and at worst, it may crack, which will provoke an accident.

Obviously, only one tap needs to be closed. But it is not entirely clear how to block the battery in the apartment: from above or below. There are 2 options:

  1. If the tap is closed on top and the bottom is closed, this is an acceptable, but undesirable option. The fact is that if repairs begin at the neighbors or throughout the house, the water will be drained from the circuit, the radiator will remain empty, which will provoke corrosion processes.
  2. From this it is clear how to shut off the batteries in the apartment: it is necessary to turn on the tap from below, and leave the top one in the same position. Literally after 1-1.5 hours, the surface of the battery will completely cool down, and the temperature in the room will become comfortable.

The correct way to turn off the heating battery in the room is shown in the photo. The upper valve remained parallel to the pipe, and the lower valve stood across. You need to do this all the way.

How to turn off the battery

It should be borne in mind that the cranes can be located in different ways:

  • lateral connection (classic version);
  • diagonal;
  • bottom.

But the way how to properly shut off the heating battery in the apartment remains the same - only the lower valve is closed, and the upper one is left in the open position. But in the case of a bottom connection, both taps are at the bottom. In order not to get confused, the “upper” valve here should be understood as the one that stands on the supply pipe that flows into the riser (it is through it that hot water enters).

How to cover the battery correctly

How to cover up for the summer

It is recommended to turn off the heating batteries for the summer, i.e. after the end of the season. In this case, close both taps, as shown in the photo. But as already mentioned, it is impossible to leave the radiator in this position for a long time. Therefore, it is advisable to track the date when utilities begin preparations for the heating season (see an ad at the entrance or make a phone call).

On the eve of these works it is necessary to close both valves. When the water begins to murmur, the taps are also left in the closed position. As soon as the characteristic sound ends, you should wait another 2 days, and then immediately open both taps or only the top one. This method, how to shut off the heating battery for the summer, allows you to insure against clogging while flushing the entire circuit.

Disconnecting batteries

Thus, only the lower valve can be closed - this allows you to completely disconnect the radiator from heating and keep it in working order. Simultaneous overlapping is allowed only in an emergency, as well as on the eve of work on flushing the system.
