As the name suggests, the spreader reduces the size of the flames of a gas stove, distributing heat evenly and protecting the bottom of frying pans, pots and other utensils. The device also performs a number of other useful functions. The article discusses in more detail why a divider for a gas stove is needed, as well as how to make it yourself from improvised materials.

Device and purpose
Dividers are a metal circle with numerous holes. The fixture is made of steel - it can be stainless material or carbon alloy. It is best to choose the first option, as it is more durable. In addition, the stainless composition is refractory, it remains attractive longer, without dark spots.
It is quite possible to make a divider for a gas stove with your own hands or purchase it in a store. In any case, the purpose of the device is the same - it performs the following functions:
- Exclusion of contact of dishes with an open flame. Many types of cookware (e.g. earthenware, ceramic, porcelain, glassware) deteriorate or even cannot withstand too high temperatures, so they need additional protection.
- Protection of the outer surface of the bottom of enameled pans and other utensils that are not intended for use on a gas stove.
- If we talk about what a divider is, then the main function is protective. But there is another important role - the device allows the use of containers with a very small diameter. It can be a mug, a small saucepan, a Turkish coffee maker. Such dishes cannot be placed exactly on standard burners, so the use of a divider remains the only way out.
- The device allows you to evenly distribute heat, which ensures normal heating of the entire surface. Therefore, all products are cooked at the same time, which eliminates burning or, conversely, insufficient readiness.
- The flame spreader allows you to cook without containers at all. Vegetables such as eggplant or carrots can be placed on the surface and grilled just like on a grill. You can also bake, pre-wrapped in foil.
- Finally, the device can even be used for the sterilization of glass jars. They are placed upside down in a pot of boiling water. You can also put it on the divider itself, but only if it does not have small holes so that there is no contact with open fire.
How to do it yourself
At home, you can make a flame spreader for a gas stove with your own hands. To do this, you need 2 sheets of stainless steel (sufficient width of 2 mm). The sequence of actions is as follows:
- From the sheets cut out 2 circles of the same diameter, corresponding to the size of the burner.
- They make a lot of small holes in them with a width of not more than 5 mm.
- Sheets are connected with bolts, leaving a minimum gap between them.
If there is no skill, you can purchase a ready-made divider for a gas stove, the photo of which is shown above. The fact is that gas is a source of danger - when using a home-made device, it is necessary to ensure uniform distribution of the flame.
