History of style and its features

The Modern style appeared in the late 19th century and reached its peak in the early 20th century. His appearance is due to the historical events of the era, when there was a sharp jump in technology and the transition to mass production. This style has become incredibly popular and in demand, its application has become ubiquitous, and many areas from art to advertising have been permeated with this artsy original style. But interest in it faded with the same speed with which it appeared. Modernity could not become an international style with a general interpretation, and there are several titles at once depending on countries: in France it is called "Art Nouveau in Germany and Scandinavia - "Art Nouveau in Italy - "Liberty and in the USA - "Tiffany". As a style of architecture, painting and interior, the Modern began to fade during the First World War. The reason for this was the technically complex and expensive manufacture of the necessary interior items. The variety of interpretations gave rise to some confusion in determining the characteristic features of the style. At present, the Modern is far from its original embodiment, but retained some distinctive features of the original, including it can be seen in the interior of the Modern kitchen.

So, let's determine what will distinguish the kitchen interior in the Art Nouveau style:

  • geometric forms next to smooth curves;
  • smooth and shiny surfaces;
  • bold combinations of colors;
  • functionality above all else;
  • an abundance of modern home appliances and various gadgets;
  • the minimum quantity of textiles;
  • avoid excessive decoration and extra accessories.

Modern is ideal for small kitchens - due to the abundance of glossy surfaces, the effect of space expansion is achieved. Minimalistic textures and bold geometric shapes, decoration in neutral colors along with polished trim and asymmetry are key identifying features of the Modernist style.

Forms and materials

So, the first sign of modern cuisine coming to mind is smooth, curved shapes and asymmetrical lines. The usual corner kitchen can get smooth shapes if the corner is rounded, and it can be rounded "inside" or "out" - so the corner boxes can suddenly become round. Such contours are perfect for small rooms and how the smoothed corners will look, you can look at the photo.

If we talk about texture, then the surfaces should be smooth and shiny - for this effect, when decorating a facade, for example, enamel, acrylic, film or lacquer is used.

.

In the Modern, many materials are possible, especially wood and plastic. Some designers use natural wood as an organic contrast against the background of artificial shapes and materials.

A glossy metal, such as, for example, stainless steel, is one of the distinctive materials in the Modern. Metal can be used for anything, from the chandelier to the legs of the chair.

Modern interior designers also use glass and plastic when creating smooth and flat surfaces.

The floor can be covered with linoleum, laminate, ceramic tiles, and the floor will also look spectacular. The expensiveness of the materials used is not the main goal (although initially it was different from the style), because the emphasis is on functionality.

Color spectrum

The main colors of modern cuisine are soft shades. Often grayish-smoky, ashy, gray-blue, light-brown colors predominate here. However, you do not have to get bored in such a kitchen, because such calm colors enliven the areas of bright colors - red, green, blue (preferably natural shades inspired by nature). These cheerful colors are usually used on wallpaper or curtains, but Modern, as a style that aims at a new reading of the old classics, does not dictate to us clear instructions, so the combination of calm and bright colors is quite possible in the kitchen set - appreciate the real embodiment of this idea in the photo below. Of course, the white kitchen is most effective, but to avoid unnecessary "sterility" of the interior, it is better, nevertheless, to dilute white with other colors. Often, with the design of the Modern kitchen, the facades of the headset are made in several colors. Colors are specially selected for contrasting colors or shades according to the design interiors color schemes, and sometimes even two different bright colors are permissible, and the table top is made in third color. To select the color in this case it is better to attract professionals, or to use the proven color schemes.

.

Lighting is an important part of the interior

Originally lighting in the interior of the Modern tried to do muffled to create an atmosphere of coziness and romance. Today, preferences have changed. Chandeliers on the ceiling will not be the only source of lighting, because the design of the kitchen in the Modern style differs, including, and good lighting. Therefore, spot lighting will be an excellent choice, and then a soft light will fill your kitchen. Chandeliers and other lighting sources do not tolerate pretentiousness and floridity, so that the forms of all lighting devices must be strict, geometrically correct. Below are photos of the lighting fixtures suitable for this style.

.

Choosing furniture

A characteristic feature of the Modernist kitchen is the unoccupied interior and its functionality. There is no fundamentalism that is accepted in the Classics, and, at the same time, there is no negligence inherent in the style of Country and Shebbie chic. Tables and chairs - strict and simple forms, without any "screaming" details. Plastic chairs here look surprisingly harmonious. In the photo below you can see the most daring furniture ideas in the Modernist style.

.

Furniture can be white or, on the contrary, bright, it is not important. Kitchen sets are mainly made of plastic and MDF and, as mentioned above, they have glossy surfaces. As for the handles of facades, they are often absent and in order to open the boxes, you just need to press the door. However, hidden handles are not the most practical part, which is especially evident on glossy headsets, because there are always fingerprints on the facades that need to be wiped. Others. interesting ideas for pens, including door handles, you can look at the photos we picked up.

Regarding the kitchen apron - often it is made of plastic or glass and in the same color solution as the countertop.

.

Apron can also be one of the main accents, contrasting with the headset and table top. Take a look at these photos, white table top and ornate finish apron look very impressive.

It is also permissible to insert matte or transparent glass in the facades. At the same time, they always remain in direct shape, without any drawings or stencils. If you try to keep up with progress, then keep in mind that such a kitchen can be filled with all sorts of technical innovations and useful gadgets - from this its appearance only benefits.

Decor - restrained and stylish

Modern does not tolerate unnecessary decor and accessories. The decor is applicable, but it only unobtrusively complements the kitchen; it is desirable that it reflects its "modernity" and asceticism. On the photos you picked, you just can find something similar. For the modern kitchen, the following decor is suitable: modern clock, beautiful vases of simple shapes or dishes of geometric shapes and bright colors. But, of course, white dishes will also look harmonious, because the Modern is on the side of simplicity of shapes and colors. In this case it will be beautiful if the frosted glass in the kitchen set will echo with the vases from the frosted glass. As bright spots also use dishes with fruits and vegetables. Textiles are rarely present in the Modern, but without some necessary trifles can not do: towels, apron, potholders, etc., of course, can be made of textiles. Instead of a tablecloth, it is better to pay attention to substitute wipes.

.

Modern consists of clean lines and focuses primarily on functionality and avoids the abundance of decorative elements that we see in many other styles. Some believe that the Modern is too simple, severe and cold, but when it is well planned and thought out, it can bring a sense of calm and harmony to your kitchen.
