Vases of glass or ceramics, painted and decorated with their own hands, can be an excellent gift, wedding decoration or an object of decor for your home. Hand painting on glass / ceramics depending on the desired pattern and technique can be both difficult, requiring skills, and very simple, accessible to beginners.

Master Class №1: Stylish Geometry for Beginners

To create this laconic and stylish decor of the vase with your own hands, you do not need to be able to draw - smooth and neat strips, zigzags and intersecting lines can be created with the help of paint tape.

You will need:spray paint, acrylic or stained glass for paint and ceramics, brush (for acrylic paints suitable synthetic brush, for stained glass - natural), paint tape (better than different widths), as well as nail polish remover or alcohol for degreasing the surface, cotton wheels and sticks.

Technique of drawing:

.
  1. Degrease the ceramic or glass vase with a cotton disc and any degreaser;
  2. As soon as the surface dries, we glue the vase using the stencil principle, for example, as shown in these photos (scroll right).
.

Tip: a very beautiful effect can be achieved by pasting a vase with a narrow tape as shown below.

.
  1. We put the vase on the newspaper and begin to gently paint the un-glued areas and the bottom, going to the scotch, so that the edges of the picture on the vase are clear. In this master class paint is used in the can, but you can use acrylic or stained-glass paints, and also complement the drawing with contours.
  2. Now it remains to wait until the paint dries completely. Drying time for all colors is different, so you need to be guided by the manufacturer's instructions. Spray paints dry very quickly and do not require baking, but acrylic and stained glass, as a rule, you can bake, putting the vase in the oven for 15 minutes at a temperature of 150 degrees, or let them dry naturally by 2-4 hours.

For your inspiration, we have selected the most beautiful ideas for decorating vases with your own hands using scotch tape. Look at the photo below - this simple decor can decorate even the most elegant wedding.

Floor vases are very large, and therefore hand painting on them is a long and time consuming task, but using scotch as a stencil you can decorate them as quickly as possible.

Carefully refer to the choice of the color of paints. Unusual shades, for example, gold, silver, copper, pastel, and also white and black colors at once will transform an ordinary glass or ceramic vase into a designer piece of decor.

Master-class №2: Spot painting of a vase

For those who are not looking for easy ways and want to decorate the vase with a more complex pattern, we suggest mastering the technique of dot painting, which is also called a peak or point-to-point.

You will need:alcohol or acetone, wadded disks and sticks for degreasing and pattern correction, and for drawing prepare qualitative contour paints, for example, from Marabu or Decola. Also you can use acrylic paints and a small synthetic brush, a cotton swab or a toothpick.

Technique of drawing:

.
  1. First, you must degrease the vase and wait for it to dry.
  2. Masters of dot painting can draw a drawing on a vase without the help of sketches, skillfully improvising in the process of creativity. But for beginners, it is better to first outline the outline of the desired pattern.
  • To transfer a picture on an opaque vase it is possible by means of a soft simple pencil: we print out or we draw a picture in the suitable size, cut out, and put it on another sheet of paper "face" down, and then carefully pencil the back of the sheet with drawing. Your task is to cover the entire area of the picture with a slate. Now it is necessary to attach and fix a scotch tape covered with the wrong side to the vase, and then draw the contours of the drawing in the same pencil (better blunt) as shown in the photo to the right. Thus, a barely noticeable sketch will remain on the surface, which will make it easier for you to work;
  • To paint a glass vase, it is enough to print out or draw an auxiliary sketch manually, and then paste it on the reverse side.

Tip: When choosing a pattern for a transparent vase, remember that the patterns or images on its walls will overlap with each other. Therefore, the main pattern is better placed on one side of the vase, and on its rest, apply a background, that is, unobtrusive painting.

  1. Before you start painting the vases, practice on paper to put the same points on the same value, maintaining an equal The interval, which should be such that the points are distinguishable, but at the same time form a single inseparable line.

Test all contours - they should not be liquid and dense. Also prepare a needle to clean the nozzle of the tube and a cotton swab to correct the failed pattern.

.

If the application of a point image directly from the tube seems difficult or you do not have contour paints - it does not matter, use acrylic paints. Points of different sizes can be set with help of tools - eraser on a pencil, toothpicks, needles, a cotton swab, a small brush and even its blunt end as shown in the photo.

  1. When the pattern is finished, put the vase in the oven according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Typically, all the paint dries in 24-72 hours in a natural way or by baking in the oven for 30 minutes at a temperature of 170 degrees (if you used baked outlines). Of course, large outdoor vases that do not fit into the oven must be dried naturally.

Ideas for decorating a ceramic vase can be gleaned from the next collection of photos.

Master-class №3: Stained glass painting of a glass vase

Contours can be drawn not only in dot technique - in combination with stained-glass paints, hand-painted vases can mimic stained glass.

.

You will need:degreaser, wadded disks and sticks, contours, stained-glass paints, a natural brush, as well as an auxiliary sketch, printed or painted with your own hands (if necessary).

Advice: stained-glass paints are on different basis. To paint the vase, paint on alcohol or water will do. Also keep in mind that non-baking paint should be fixed with a special varnish for stained glass. This option is more suitable for the design of a large outdoor vase that does not fit in the oven, in other cases it is better to buy baked paint.

Technique of drawing:

  1. Degrease the glass;
  2. Fix a sketch from inside the vase;
  3. Starting from the back of the picture, draw closed contours, adjusting the lines if necessary. Then allow the contours to dry for about 2 hours. Speeding up the process will help the hair dryer or baking in the oven for 15 minutes (150 degrees);
  4. Now you need to fill the outlines with paint, evenly distributing it with a brush. Stained-glass paints are fluid and liquid - you need to adapt to them. The main principles - stained-glass paint should come in contact with the contour, and you can not leave "unprotected".
  5. And finally, we put the painted vase in a preheated oven for 150-170 degrees for half an hour.
