Video - cultivation of viola from seedsIts bright color will decorate any flower garden, so flower growers are very willing to plant this flower. In sunny areas, the viola blooms profusely, in the penumbra its flowers shrink somewhat. However, buying ready seedlings every spring is quite expensive, so many grow viola seedlings on their own. It should be noted that the plant is biennial and when sown with seeds it will bloom only in the second year. When to plant a viol on seedlings?
Having bought several bags of bright viola, pay attention to the fact that the sowing of this flower is carried out in the summer. Many inexperienced growers make the mistake of sowing the viola in the spring, and expect to receive its lush bloom in the summer. This is a two-year culture, so it is important to know when to plant a viol on seedlings.
In June-July, a place in the flower garden is allocated for sowing seeds of pansies. Seeds are pretreated with a growth accelerator. Seeds are buried 0.5 cm in the groove, sprinkling it with earth without lumps. The soil is carefully shed with water, trying not to erode the place of sowing. It is useful to mulch the place of sowing with small sawdust, which will allow moisture to be kept in the soil.
After 2 weeks, shoots will appear, they need to be drenched from the sun with a dark film, which is removed in two weeks. By August, the seedlings will grow up and it can be transplanted to a permanent place. Plants with a lush and long flowering are obtained from such planting material, which is impossible to achieve from the viola grown from seed by seedling.

Care for viola seedlings grown in open field is to warm it with straw or lapnik before winter. This "veil" will protect the root system of the plant from freezing.
In spring, young plants are fed twice with a solution of complex fertilizer - before the formation of buds and at the beginning of flowering.
The use of fresh manure is unacceptable, as it provokes the disease “black leg”.
Growing from seed
In regions with a harsh climate, planting viola on seedlings from seeds is becoming the only way to grow this flower.
The complexity of this method of growing the viola is the need to create a number of conditions:
- Additional lighting;
- Compliance with temperature;
- Selection of optimal soil.
At the end of February - beginning of March, you can sow the viol on seedlings at home. Pre-seeds need to soak in a solution of Zircon, Appin or the drug EM-1.this will accelerate seed germination and make seedlings more resistant to pathogens.
The optimal substrate for growing viola is made from peat, the pH of which is 5.5-5.8.In such a soil, you do not need to make fertilizer, you need to feed the seedlings viola in the phase of formation of two true leaves.
In order to obtain good seedlings, it is important to create drainage in a container. Viola seeds are sown on seedlings on top of the moistened substrate, sprinkling them with a thin layer of vermiculite. Before germination, the container is covered with plastic wrap or a piece of glass. This will speed up the germination of seeds. Periodically, shelter must be removed for airing, which will avoid the formation of fungus in the soil. If you use cups for growing, 3-4 seeds should be sown in each of them. After germination in the cup, the strongest and most well-developed sprout is left, removing the rest.

When container growing seedlings viola swoop twice:
- The first time the plants are planted when two true leaves were formed.
- The second picking is carried out at 5 weeks of age. To do this, use individual pots, the diameter of which does not exceed 10 cm.
If plants dive into large seedling boxes, it is important to maintain a distance between plants of about 6 cm. Unheated greenhouses at the summer cottage are suitable for growing seedlings.
Since the sowing of the viola on seedlings is carried out in peat soil or tablets without fertilizers, the first feeding is done in three weeks.
To do this, use any mineral fertilizers, watering the solution at the root. Further feeding is repeated every month. With watering, too, need to be careful. Water should be directed under the root, avoiding dropping on the leaves.
In the open ground, grown viola seedlings are planted in mid-May, when return frost is not expected.
When transplanting 5 cm deep pits to the bottom, you need to pour a handful of sand as a drainage and plant seedlings of pansies with a clod of earth. The distance between plantings should be about 10-15 cm. For larger plants with larger flowers, the distance between the bushes is 20 cm. Seedlings are watered abundantly under the root and lightly shading for several days. Sand will allow water to quickly go deep into the soil, without forming stagnation. This reduces the risk of black leg viola.

This is the basic scheme of growing pansies. But how to grow viola seedlings healthy so that it does not stretch out in a container on the windowsill?
Since the sowing is carried out in the early stages, shoots need to be illuminated, for which ordinary fluorescent lamps or phytolamps, which belong to the category of special lighting fixtures, are used. Viola requires a light day of at least 14-16 hours. The growth regulator Alar somewhat restricts the growth of seedlings, but subject to the use of light exposure.
As regards temperature, for germination of seeds, 18-30 degrees of heat are needed. Deviation in any direction adversely affects the germination of viola seeds.
Even a temperature rise of up to 23 degrees causes the shoots of the viola to linger for up to one month. As soon as sprouts appear above the soil, the temperature should be reduced to 12-15 degrees. The grown-up viola seedlings easily tolerate lower temperatures, even at 5 degrees it feels good. At the same time, development slows down somewhat, but in conditions of a lack of light, seedlings are less drawn out.
