As a native inhabitant of the tropics in South America, Brugmancia, as a native inhabitant of the South American tropics, is very thermophilic and reacts sharply to temperature drops, discarding foliage and stopping bud formation. A temperature of 23–28 ° C is considered comfortable, and the first signs of discomfort are noticeable when the temperature drops to 8–10 ° C.Closer to zero, Brugmansia first stops vegetation, and then the above-ground part of the tree dies. To maintain the attractiveness of the plant throughout the year, when taking care of brugmancia at home:
- try to maintain a constant temperature;
- protects the plant from drafts;
- provide bright and durable lighting;
- conduct regular watering and fertilizing, the schedule of which depends on the vegetative activity of the indoor flower;
- cut the crown and transplant the plant when it “outgrow” the old pot.
In the summertime, when there is no danger of freezing, whether there is a cold wind or rain, it is useful to take a brugmancia pot to fresh air.
Brugmansia loves the sun and feels great not only on the east or west, but also on the south side. Only on the most sunny days, in the midday hours, the plant can wilt a little, which is easy to fix by watering and moving the pot one meter deep into the room.

If the indoor plant of Brugmansia is indoors all year round, from autumn to spring, and when placed away from the window, the flower needs additional lighting. When the winter cold content, for example, in the basement with a temperature of about 10 ° C, no light is required.
Soil for bruhmancia, transplanting and choosing a pot
In a pot, brugmancia is growing rapidly, and in order to fully grow its vegetation it needs a nutritious, light substrate.
This mixture can be made on the basis of:
- 2 parts of lowland peat;
- 1 pieces of humus;
- 1 part garden land.
If necessary, pre-washed sand, perlite and vermiculite are added to the ground for Brugmansia, and as a prophylaxis against fungal infections and putrefactive bacteria, it is useful to inject slightly crushed charcoal.
The pot for brugmansia is chosen on the basis of serious dimensions. Due to the rapid growth, it is better to take the capacity “with a reserve”, otherwise the bush will have to be replanted several times a year.
Transplantation is carried out in early spring, before the start of the awakening of the main points of growth. Smaller specimens are transferred to a larger container, and in adults Brugmans change the top layer of soil.
Before planting, pour a layer of expanded clay, pebbles mixed with charcoal or other material onto the bottom of the pot. Then, a rooted cutting or a specimen with an old earthen clod requiring transplant is transferred onto a small layer of soil.
When it comes to transplanting, the roots of Brugmansia slightly cut along the contour of the pot, simultaneously removing dead or rotten rhizomes.
At the end, all voids in a new pot are filled with a nutrient, pre-sterilized mixture, which is carefully compacted and watered.

Watering and feeding your brugmancia indoor plant
Brugmancia has a well-developed crown that:
- protects the soil under the flower from overheating and evaporation;
- is involved in photosynthesis and helps the plant get the necessary nutrition;
- requires a lot of moisture and nutrients to maintain its tone, especially in hot sunny weather.
Therefore, Brugmancia in a pot is watered regularly and abundantly, reducing watering only for the time of overcast weather and wintering. Watering the flower is done with warm soft water, soaking the whole earthen Komi and always draining the excess for 30–40 minutes accumulating in the pan.
For tropical plants, especially young specimens, the humidity of not only the substrate, but also of air is important. However, moisture on flowers and leaves can cause burns. To prevent this from happening, for humidifying the air, use:
- irrigation, when the plant is in partial shade or in the evening;
- placing next to a container with water;
- placing a pot on a pallet with wet expanded clay;
- household humidifiers.
Feedings are carried out throughout the growing season. First, immediately after the spring pruning, nitrogen fertilizers are applied, activating the growth of greenery, then they switch to complex mixtures that stimulate the formation of buds and lush flowering.
In the warm season, Brugmancia, when you take care of yourself at home, is fed at intervals of 7 to 14 days.
Growing brugmansiya from seeds at home
Growers today have the opportunity to grow Brugmancia in various ways, including seed. If the seed is obtained independently, there is no certainty about what the young plants will be. As a hybrid indoor plant, Brugmansia does not retain parental traits. Another thing - the seeds from a trusted manufacturer.
In this case, it is not difficult to obtain varietal brugmancia from seeds at home. Sowing is carried out from January to the beginning of spring. In this case, the seedlings appear with increasing daylight and quickly grow. The base soil can be used as a substrate, but a mixture of equal parts of peat, sand or perlite works equally well. Seeds are laid out on the surface on a moistened soil and sprinkled with a layer of soil from 5 to 12 mm.

In a greenhouse with an air temperature of 22–25 ° C and high humidity, it will take from 1 to 10 weeks for seeds to grow and show sprouts depending on the freshness of the seed.
All this time the container is in the light and humidified as necessary. When growing from seed, a picking of brugmancia is carried out at the stage of 4–5 true leaves. In the future, the care of plants differs little from caring for adult specimens.
One has only to remember that up to a year, non-lignified shoots withstand heat and dry air worse, are more afraid of pests and fungal infections.
Reproduction room brugmansii cuttings
Cutting makes it possible to get a flowering plant faster and easier than when planting seeds with Brugmansia and caring for tiny seedlings. Specimens grown from half-cut or fully woody shoots bloom as early as the second year after planting. In seedlings it takes from 2 to 4 years.
You can get hardy cuttings ready for root formation from spring to early autumn, the main thing is that these pieces of stem have growth points. Branched cuttings bloom earlier than normal, straight.
It is even better to use for breeding Brugmansia root cuttings, which now and then appear at the base of an adult plant. They are separated during transplantation, like stem cuttings, treated with a root formation stimulator and dropped in a light nutrient-rich substrate or immersed in water with the addition of a few pieces of charcoal or activated carbon.
The average length of the Brugmancia stem is 15–20 cm, which is enough for awakening 1–3 points of growth. Under room greenhouse conditions, roots are formed in 4–7 weeks, after which seedlings can be transferred from their own pots.
