The kitchen apron is located in places above the hob and sink, so it should have increased resistance to moisture, temperature and pollution. What finishing options are not suitable for an apron?
Water repellent wallpaper
There are many water-resistant wallpaper options. But this property should not be tested for strength every day. When cooking, drops of fat, oil and water fly in all directions, including wallpaper. From such conditions, they will quickly get wet, fade in some places, and when you try to clean them with household chemicals, they may break or scratch.
Someone manages to paste over the apron area with ordinary wallpaper, which will lose their original appearance in a month. They turn yellow, warp, soak and peel off. They can’t be corrected, you have to completely replace the coating.
Glass apron
Glass looks very beautiful and fashionable, but is not a good solution for all kitchens. Despite the abundance of options for design and decoration, a glass apron is not always appropriate. Firstly, all spots and bloopers on it are especially strongly visible, to keep the glass clean it must always be wiped. Secondly, glass has the ability to burst or explode, even tempered. If the voltage is redistributed incorrectly due to mechanical defects in it, then it will scatter into many fragments. Thirdly, if the glass apron is large, then it is quite difficult to raise it to the floor. Fourth, glass is suitable only for a modern kitchen interior.
Mosaic
A mosaic apron is often considered an alternative to a regular tiled apron. Mosaic can be made of many materials: glass, ceramics, artificial or natural stone, as well as mirrors.
Its main drawback is the complexity of the installation. Each joint must be worked out by grouting; this is a long and laborious process. In addition, in the process of use, you will have to repeatedly update the material of the joints. Also, the prices for mosaics are much higher than for tiles.
Mirror surface
The idea of making a mirror apron sounds impressive. In fact, this finish has more disadvantages. Mirrored surfaces are very expensive, any greasy spots, as well as fingerprints, are visible on them. The material is very fragile, it is easy to leave cracks or chips on it. If the mirror is not made of high quality, then with time, bubbles will appear between the amalgam and the glass.
Particleboard panels
The first minus of particleboard is that when heated, poor-quality material can release formaldehydes into the atmosphere. Also, with poor processing and low-quality coating, chipboard from constant moisture swells, deforms. When cleaning with aggressive chemicals, paint can be washed off the surface.
