To perform high-quality laying of the wooden floor is not an easy task. However, it is greatly simplified by replacing an ordinary board with a grooved one. Due to the fact that the tongue and groove board has grooves and spikes on the lateral edges, the elements are easily connected to each other. The assembly method is very similar to the children's designer. In addition to easy installation, this material also has a high level of environmental sustainability.
The tongue and groove board has a number of positive qualities:
- Strength and durability - special grooves can significantly reduce the level of load on the upper surface. The completely dried wood, assumed by the technology, does not lend itself to deformation even under great pressure on it.
- Fast installation - thanks to careful fitting, special locks allow not only fast lay out the entire surface, but also tightly join the elements, leaving no room for moisture penetration.
- Maintainability - a significant thickness of the material helps to easily remove any scratch that has occurred by grinding.
- Choice - a variety of textures and drawings allows you to choose the most suitable material for the interior.
Among the shortcomings of the tongue-and-groove board, its high cost and instability to moisture can be distinguished. The ability to quickly absorb water, as a rule, leads to the fact that the material swells and begins to rot.
A feature of the grooved board is the ability to lay the material on almost any type of floor surface. In addition to traditional laying on a flat concrete surface, a method of assembling the tongue into logs is often used.
Logs are wooden blocks with a large thickness and installed on a flat floor. Their pitch is from 30 to 60 cm. A soundproofing substrate and moisture-proof plywood are laid on top of them. The thickness of the latter should not be less than 1.8 mm. Using an ordinary screwdriver, the grooved board is screwed to the lags.
It should be noted that this method is considered difficult, but allows you to implement more original forms of the floor.
The grooved board can not only be purchased in finished form, but also made independently. To do this, it is enough to have ordinary dry boards and access to a milling machine and a manual jointer. This method will require not small efforts and skills to work with equipment, however, it will significantly save money on the purchase of finishing material.
