Brick is the most popular material for individual housing construction. Due to its high strength, ability to withstand the effects of low and high temperatures, as well as their sharp changes, bricks are used almost everywhere. The bearing walls of houses and outbuildings are erected from it, stoves, fireplaces and fences are laid out.
However, when building a house, you need to be guided by various important factors. One of them is the weight of the brick. From this value depends on the need for the construction of one or another type of foundation, designed for a certain load. Also, guided by this indicator, you can calculate the bearing load of the walls. Incorrect calculation or ignoring this factor will lead to subsidence of the foundation, the formation of cracks in the walls, the destruction of the basement and the entire house.
Regardless of the manufacturer, there are common standards for the size and weight of bricks. The main types of bricks are ceramic and silicate products. The first type is produced by high-temperature clay firing. It is used to build interior partitions and load-bearing walls. Hollow brick is used for internal filling of the bearing wall. This provides sound and thermal insulation of houses. Ceramic bricks are available in a hollow or solid version, in various standard sizes. The most widespread single or one and a half brick size.
For the production of silicate brick, a clay-silicate mixture is used. Such a brick is used in the construction of load-bearing and interior walls of buildings. The shape and size of silicate brick is similar to the ceramic type of products.
The calculation of the bearing capacity of the foundation and the exterior walls of the house is based on the specific gravity of the brick. This indicator represents the mass of building material with a volume of one cubic meter. The denser the material, the greater its specific gravity. For a brick, this indicator is calculated based on the number of pieces in one cubic meter.
When designing, specific gravity must be taken into account. To do this, take the characteristics of the brick specified in the design specification of materials. To calculate the required number, the weight of one cubic meter of brick is multiplied by the total number of bricks needed for the construction.
The accuracy of the calculation is also needed to acquire the required amount of brick in one batch. This reduces the likelihood of overall and weight differences of bricks from different lots, and this will provide higher speed and strength of the masonry.
