Natural stone in construction has been used by people throughout the history of mankind. Our ancestors, who lived in the Stone Age, were hiding from the rain and the scorching sun in stone caves. In the Middle Ages impregnable fortresses were built of stone. With the development of science in the field of construction, many alternative materials have been created, but not all of them can compete in functional properties with natural stone.
There are three types of stones: igneous origin, sedimentary and metamorphic.
Natural stones are used in a number of areas of construction, depending on the physical-mechanical properties inherent in a particular type, for example:
- Exterior finish of facades, socles and other elements of architecture;
- Interior decoration elements;
- Creation of elements of landscape architecture (alpine hills, arbors, separately lying boulders);
- Creation of elements of art decor (waterfalls, fountains, statues, stairs);
- Formation of sidewalks and garden paths from rubble stone, pavers or paving slabs.
By nature, the stone is colored in many shades of the color scheme, so choosing a palette of colors according to individual taste is not difficult. Using the natural properties of the stone, you can give it a certain texture:
- Grinding (surface cleaning with intentional leaving marks of artificial processing on the material). Grinding can be coarse and fine;
- Polishing (smoothing the surface of the stone to even shine);
- Chipped stone (imitation of natural chips on the stone);
- Point texture (damage to the stone by blows of a special hammer - butchard);
- Sawing (surface with longitudinal grooves).
Due to the variety of shapes, colors and textures, natural materials are very often used in architectural and construction practice and design.
Natural stone, correctly entered into the interior, always attracts attention. In favor of the use of this material is its absolute environmental friendliness and long service life. Natural stone can serve as a backdrop for design ideas or be the center of attention.
This material is used not only in the decoration of facades and other surfaces, but also in structural construction (blocks for foundations, floors and stairs). It is also used for the manufacture of sculptures, fountains and other decorative objects. In any case, it fits perfectly into any environment.
