Busbar Features
A busbar trunking is a special metal frame of square or circular cross-section, which serves to install lighting fixtures on ceilings, walls and other working surfaces. In most cases, the busbar is made of durable stainless materials: alloy steel, aluminum alloy steel and titanium, etc. Such a framework should have the following qualities:
- Strength;
- Corrosion resistance;
- Flexibility.
The busbar for track lights is a frame resembling either a square or a rectangle in shape. It is very convenient because its installation does not require separate installation of anchors or hooks in the ceiling, which means a certain benefit to the owners of French suspended ceilings.
Inside the busbar is hollow (open or closed), it houses the lamp wire. Considering the fact that for all lamps the main problem is their connection to the wiring, here it is solved initially. The ends of the cables are located on the extreme parts of the busbar, they are made in different colors so that it is possible to immediately determine the phase and grounding, or phase and neutral.

Types of lamps with busbar
There are various lamps on the busbar. Basically, this criterion depends on the type of attachment of the device. They are hanging, wall, swivel and others. Each of them has certain differences, advantages and disadvantages:
- Chinese built-in models are installed on a flexible busbar, most often it is interesting models with wire or hollow tube - fip;
- Ceiling lights should be more rigid, because when they are installed, they must be clearly fixed in a certain position;
- Exposition models provide showcase lighting. These are small halogen or LED models. They are mounted on a frame in the shape of a rectangle, and can easily change their position if necessary;
- In addition to the busbar trunking, technical lamps are also equipped with a solid lampshade, for example, elpro, fabbian models.
Installation of fixtures
The installation of luminaires on a busbar trunking is carried out almost in the same way as the installation of point or technical lighting devices. The only difference is the presence of several stages in the installation. Let's consider the scheme step by step:
- Depending on the size of the busbar, it may be necessary to mount the frame separately. First you need to install the supporting and completing devices and structures in the ceiling or other surface where we mount the lamp. If the size of the carcass allows, then you can stretch the tire from the wall, this will keep the stretch ceiling intact and save installation time;
- After that, we begin to dock the lamp sections. Few people know that the lamp is supplied and sold in a collapsible form, it is much more convenient to assemble the busbar already during direct installation on the ceiling or wall. For example, metal-halide or industrial led lamps (robin, dialux, star) are mounted in this way, which have a slightly elongated shape;
- Domestic fixtures for the home on the busbar are most often equipped with separate connection blocks or even special plugs. If these details are not available, then you need to turn off the power in the house with the help of a knife switch, and release the wiring contacts, which should branch off over the future installation location of the lamp. Now we combine the wires that are suitable in color, isolate them, install the lamp at the desired angle and check the connection. If two wires leave the device and three from the ceiling or wall, we recommend that you read our article about connecting chandeliers in an apartment with three-phase wiring.
Choose a lamp
Each company of electrical devices provides a catalog with short characteristics and photos of fixtures to demonstrate the complete list of products. For example, the Italian Legrand models are perfect for the euro design of an apartment, or to create stylish display cases.
If you need to illuminate a work shop or utility room, then pay attention to the arctic models. They calmly and without flicker carry power surges several dozen higher or lower than 220 V, and are quite affordable, especially if you buy them in bulk.
