Classic lamps
Classic lamps are familiar to all high openwork lamps on a static leg with a fabric lampshade. Despite the fact that the shelf life of such lamps is unlimited, wiping of the fabric or its physical damage is possible over time. In these cases, you must either completely replace the fabric on the lamp, or repair it.
In order to make a lampshade in retro style we need:
- wire made of aluminum or copper (we select material that is easily bent, but at the same time, so that it does not break, even bronze or silver alloys are suitable, but they are expensive);
- fabric of the desired color;
- safety pins, thread, needle, stapler and glue PVA.
Select the shape of the lampshade. If you plan a lamp in a vintage style, then we recommend giving preference to a round shape, but if the floor lamp should be in modern style, then we make it square or oval.
Having bent the wire, we wrap its ends and cut it with a hacksaw (or just break it). We make knitting needles, for this we cut off the straight parts from the wire, we calculate in such a way that between the spokes were the distance of centimeters, we bend the tips, if possible, weld or soldered.
Wrap the fabric around the lampshade. So far, we are not touching the lower and upper trims. Having wrapped the entire surface of the lampshade contour, we fasten the fabric with an English needle near each knitting needle, we make several stitches at the junction. We cut off two strips from the fabric that will serve as fixing for the lampshade. To connect, use a stapler or thread with a needle.
At the junction it will be more convenient to work with glue. It is not necessary to apply large drops so that no traces remain on the fabric and the glue is not enlightened. We leave the fabric to dry with the base down, preferably at room temperature, not in the drafts, otherwise the fabric will contract and may begin to diverge.
You can also decorate the lampshade with corrugated cardboard, then you get a very beautiful and stylish lampshade for the bedroom or living room. Depending on the overall style of the apartment, you can work with multi-colored cardboard: white, brown, red, purple, blue, green or yellow (for children, for example). We make the frame according to the same principle as above. After we wrap it with cardboard and connect it with glue. This lampshade is very good in that it can be changed almost every week, depending on the mood.
The lampshade with a silk coating looks very stylish, it practically does not glare and passes color very finely, they can be installed on bedside lamps. It is recommended to stitch silk and satin fabric with silk threads, it will not be able to hold glue, and after the pins there will be noticeable dots or even puffs.
Even Chinese lanterns can be used as a lampshade, you just need to pull them on the frame. But it needs to be soaring, i.e. it needs to be set on fire and put out to open the flashlight, and then install it on the floor lamp.
How to decorate a lampshade
Table decorative lamps with a Provence-style lampshade are very difficult to reconstruct, so we will tell you how to decorate them. The variant with volumetric decoration looks very interesting. It is now often used to decorate walls or ceilings, so why not decorate a sconce like that.
For production, you need glossy magazines, but which have not white pages, but color, and glue. We cut out the figures of interest to us from paper. For a bedroom or a nursery, it can be butterflies, for a living room or study simply geometric shapes. We advise you to make them different in size, so they will look more interesting. After sticking paper on the floor lamps. This can be done in a specific order, for example, from large to small, or without order.
You can freshen a fabric lamp. We do it with our own hands (difficult and long), or we tear it off from old unnecessary clothes. Glue decorative elements with super-glue, or sew on. Similarly, it can be done with beads or beads. They are sewn or glued. The sale of these elements is carried out in special hand-made stores in all major cities: Kazan, Moscow, Kiev, etc.
You can repair the lampshade for a table lamp with a knitted piece of fabric. Many branded lamps (ahura, dauphin, eglo, inlight, mantra, massive, sabadin, tiffany, vian, villari, crystal) use this method. We knit out a stylish patch, you can make it with protruding ends, like on Gummy bears. And sew to the damaged place on the lampshade.
Such patches look good on Soviet-style lampshades, with floral patterns or polka dots.
Many modern table lamps are made of natural materials, such fabric lampshades can be restored very quickly if you sew in them a zipper with a dog. It is not necessary that it be unfastened, the essence in appearance.
Beautiful lamps are obtained with stained glass, but they are quite difficult to perform. For beginners, we recommend using plastic lenses. In the place where the fabric has leaked, you need to make a hole larger. After we insert a plastic lens into it and fix it with glue or nylon thread.
How to decorate solid lampshades
Solid lampshades include antique porcelain or ceramic table lamps, as well as models made of natural stone (onyx) with a glass coating. Such lamps can be decorated with decoupage technique. This is a transfer of a picture from paper to any other surface.
We recommend using cardboard, gift wrappers are also suitable.
In addition to the style, you can cover other interior items in the house (for example, it can be a vase, a battery or small office supplies - a cup for stationery, pencils, etc.). So you can beautifully decorate a nursery or bedroom.
Step-by-step instruction:
- We process the surface of the lamp with alcohol, this will make it fat. If the installation will be done on a wooden coating, then you need to walk on it with a sandpaper;
- Cut out the shapes or patterns we need from paper. After thoroughly coat the surface with glue;
- We paste the pictures, smooth them with a cloth, but very carefully, otherwise wrinkles will appear and it will be ugly.
Thus, you can decorate and kerosene lamps, and touch, most importantly, choose the right patterns on paper.
