The process of laying any tile ends with finishing the seams. There should be no voids between the joints, so they are filled with a special material - a fugue (or grout). A well-finished seam will not allow debris or water to penetrate the tile, which will undoubtedly affect the overall surface service life.
With the help of a good grout, various defects allowed during installation are also easily masked. Of course, grouting is important to choose the right one.
All of them are divided into two types by composition: cement and epoxy.
Cement grout
These are cement based grouts. Various additives and coloring pigments may also be included. When diluted with water, they turn into a kind of putty. They can be bought both in finished form and in powder.
Cement grouts have such advantages as ease and ease of use, good strength, a wide selection of colors, reasonable price. But there are also disadvantages. They are poorly resistant to pollution and quickly destroyed by the action of chemicals, such as chlorine.
Epoxy grout
They contain two essential components: an epoxy resin with additives and a hardener. To work, you need to mix them together. But the resulting dense mass must be constantly mixed, and it is applied for a long time because of the high viscosity.
This type of grout can be used without risk in difficult conditions. Often they are used when laying tiles in kitchens, bathrooms, pools. The epoxy compound is not affected by acids and household chemicals.
Seams finished with epoxy grout will retain color and strength for 40-50 years. The grout is also resistant to chemistry, fungus and mold damage, does not let water through, has excellent decorative properties. Because of this, professionals call epoxy grout the best.
The disadvantages include only the high cost and complexity of the work.
