To become a welder, it is not enough just to purchase a popular inverter welding machine. For him, electrodes are still needed, it is very difficult for a beginner to understand various types of them.
Types of Electrodes
According to the type of core coating, the electrodes are divided into 4 types:
- The main one is used, like cellulose, when working on direct current;
- Rutile - suitable for both direct and alternating current. It lights up well and gives few sparks;
- Sour - material hazardous to health; it is impossible to work indoors;
- Cellulose.
For domestic use, electrodes with a basic and rutile coating have proven themselves best. They are labeled as SSSI 13/55 and MP-3.
These two types can be successfully used in everyday life. But the first look is capricious and more suitable for experienced craftsmen. But the second is universal, it can be used by beginners.
SSSI 13/55 are designed for welding carbon and low alloy steels. They give ductile joints that withstand shock loads and low temperatures.
The workpiece must be cleaned well, otherwise welding pores may appear.
They work with DC welding and reverse polarity.
MR-3 electrodes also work with those steels as UONI 13/55. But their use is permissible both on direct and alternating current. Their advantages: low spatter and stable arc. A seam of good quality is given by electrodes of the MP-3C brand.
Electrodes of ANO are popular in Russia. They light up easily and give a good result. Specialists advise beginners to start with them.
There are also special electrodes for stainless steel, aluminum, copper, silicon with aluminum, copper with steel, cast iron, low carbon steels. All of them are used for inverter welding and can operate on either one or two types of current.
This is not to say which electrodes are better. It all depends on the experience of the welder, the tasks facing him and the type of material being welded.
