Many masters specializing in pasting rooms, contrary to a large selection of wallpaper adhesives, often resort to the method of self-manufacturing. Knowledge of the technology of its preparation can allow pasting a room even if its walls are in a damp state.
Many do not even suggest that perfectly glued wallpapers in the old room are the result of using homemade glue. Early production technology required the availability of rye or wheat flour and potato starch. This is a proven but outdated combination of components.
In order to independently produce glue that is not inferior in quality to a quality factory product, you need ordinary flour and water.
The components used are mixed in a ratio of 2 tablespoons of flour per liter of water. Volume is adjusted as needed. The resulting consistency is put on the stove and cooked for 5 minutes. The finished material is perfect for gluing cardboard or paper.
For higher strength, allowing the wallpaper to hold tight for many years, you can make glue with the addition of starch:
- Potato starch in a volume of 750 g is mixed in wood alcohol (200 g).
- One and a half liters of water is added to the resulting composition and everything is intensively mixed.
- 9 liters of boiled hot water are poured.
- The mixture is boiled, and in parallel with this, 100 g of alum is dissolved in 300 ml of water.
- The resulting alum solution is added to the total boiled container.
- After cooling, the composition is carefully filtered.
The manufacturing process, as can be seen from the described recipe, is quite simple. In order to ensure good quality of the obtained substance, it is recommended to grab a little material with two fingers. If the composition drains easily, then everything is fine, and it is ready for use. In case of its increased density, a small amount of heated water should be added and mixed thoroughly.
Compressed by fingers should also cause a feeling of stickiness and elasticity. If they are present, then you can start work. If there is any doubt about the achieved stickiness, add flour and repeat the whole procedure.
Glue made independently will not only save money on repairs, but also reliably glue the wallpaper for many years.
