How to cut a narrow strip of ceramic tile

Ceramic tile is a popular building material widely used in the process of interior and exterior cladding. It is characterized by durability, unpretentiousness in leaving, resistance to damages, temperature extremes and pressure.

In some cases, tiles of standard sizes are not suitable, and therefore it must be cut on its own. If everyone can cut the tile in half, then only a professional can cut a thin strip. Or a person who carefully prepared, studied the recommendations and found the right equipment.

Grinder tile cutting

Ceramic tiles can be cut evenly using an ordinary grinder equipped with a stone cutting disc. In this case, only one inaccuracy may occur, consisting in the uneven edge of the cut fragment.

The edge can always be leveled using coarse sandpaper or a grindstone. Grinding should be carried out as carefully as possible, because excessive efforts can lead to the loss of the desired shape of the ceramic part.

It is worth remembering that glazed tiles can conflict with the grinder, which will cause damage to the glaze. Therefore, at first it is better to perform work on the test material.

Tile cutting with glass cutter or tile cutter

In this case, the choice of equipment directly depends on the technical characteristics of the ceramic tile - its thickness, size and texture.

Using a roller glass cutter, you need to make a notch on the surface of the tile, lay it on the edge of the hard and a stable surface, hold on top with a long and strong element - chipboard or bar, then press hard and break off. This method is suitable only for those who are confident in their abilities.

To save time, you can use an electric tile cutter. However, its value cannot be called democratic, and therefore such an acquisition is not always advisable.

Which cutting circle to choose?

For cutting any ceramic tile, including porcelain tile, a circle for a diamond-coated grinder is ideal. It will allow cutting the material as accurately as possible and not damage its coating.

If the tile has a glazed surface, it must be cut from the front side. In this way, you can protect yourself from damage to glazed enamel, which can crumble or crack under the influence of strong pressure.
