How to get a broken bolt from a deep hole

Very often during car repairs or other equipment, a situation arises when the bolt breaks in a deep hole. The cause may be rust or too much pressure. It is not so easy to get the stuck part without additional knowledge and skills. The cap may break off at the bolt and part of it will be visible above the seat. The option is not excluded, when the bolt breaks flush with the surface, it is much more difficult to get it in this case.

There are several ways to get the bolt out of the hole. But in any of them it is necessary to carry out the preparatory stage: pour the part with machine oil or WD-40 fluid, and then gently tap the thread with a hammer.

Option 1. The bolt broke over the surface

When after unsuccessful manipulations it was possible to “break off” the bolt a little and it sticks out above the surface, you can try to pull it out using pliers or an adjustable wrench. If the bolt is firmly stuck in the hole, a grinder, a hacksaw for metal or a chisel will come to the rescue. The choice of tool will depend on the bolt hole. All you need to do is make a transverse hole and unscrew the bolt with a screwdriver. When these methods are powerless, you should resort to welding. You need to take a new bolt and weld it to the wreckage. Unscrew the bolt is not difficult.

Option 2 The bolt is broken flush with the surface or below

In this situation, a drill with a thin drill can help. It is necessary to drill several holes in the bolt, combine them and try to unscrew the part with a screwdriver. If the above method did not help to cope with the task, a drill and a tap are required. The master must drill a hole in the center of the part and cut the left-hand thread in it. A new bolt inserted in the resulting thread will help unscrew the stuck part. You can also drill a “core” from the hole, but there is a risk of damaging the thread. To do this, first take a drill with a thin drill, then change it to a thicker drill until thin walls remain from the bolt. Residues of metal are removed with tweezers or thin wire.
