Conventionally, it is possible to divide the entire glue for linoleum into two large groups - reaction and dispersion. Each of them has its own characteristics and disadvantages. Dispersion formulations are based on water. Cellulose glycolic acid and acrylic are used as additives. Latex or chalk may also be present in the dispersion adhesive for linoleum. It is an environmentally friendly material that does not have a strong odor. In any residential premises, dispersion adhesive can be used without any restrictions.
In stores, most often you can find three types of dispersion glue for linoleum. Universal bustilate contains all the above components and carboxymethyl cellulose. It is suitable for linoleum with a fleecy base. The basis of acrylate glue are thermoplastic resins. This is a sticky material. It can be used in rooms with increased cross-country ability for laying linoleums with a double synthetic, jute or fibrous base. If you plan to use natural linoleum, you must purchase gumilaks glue. It is based on rubber and latex. It is also suitable for materials based on felt or fabric.
In conditions of high humidity and low temperatures, dispersion adhesives quickly lose their properties.
Adhesive characteristics do not recover after freezing. Bonding material crumbles and loses elasticity. Linoleum may begin to recede if the humidity in the room is too high. For this reason, dispersion adhesives can only be used in heated rooms, so that the temperature never drops below fifteen degrees. Humidity should not exceed sixty percent.
The composition of the reaction glue for linoleum includes epoxy and polyurethane components. The adhesive effect occurs as a result of chemical reactions occurring after application. Such compositions are also sometimes referred to as cold welding. The reaction adhesives prevent the coating from sitting down, as it does not contain water. They provide water resistance and excellent ductility. This is the best option for rooms with high traffic, where a commercial version of linoleum is used. But at the same time, reaction adhesives are considered fire and explosive. After application, they have a sharp chemical smell. For residential apartments and houses, this option is considered not suitable.
