Dreaming of building his own house, the owner thinks about what material the walls will be built from. Just a couple of hundred years ago, the choice would definitely have fallen on the massif. Later preferences would remain on the brick side.
The modern choice of material for construction is diverse in its quality and price characteristics. Many builders prefer artificial material - aerated concrete.
Aerated concrete
The manufacturing technology of aerated concrete material involves the presence of three important components:
- Quartz sand
- Blowing agent
- Cement
As a result of a chemical reaction, the main and auxiliary elements form hydrogen bubbles, which creates a porous structure of the material. Ultimately, aerated concrete is poured into special containers, where it solidifies, becoming a slab. It is easy to cut, saw, drill, plan. Due to the fact that it is made from mineral components, the material is completely non-combustible. However, not all properties of aerated concrete slabs are so good. There are disadvantages to this building material.
Disadvantages of aerated concrete houses
Before choosing aerated concrete, as a material for building a house, it is necessary to study its shortcomings and compare with your own requirements.
- Fragile. Unfortunately, due to the manufacturing features and compositional characteristics, this material is quite fragile. And for building a house, durability is paramount. If the already built house settles, then the blocks will certainly go cracked.
- Moisture absorption. Another drawback of the house, which is built of aerated concrete slabs, is the high moisture absorption. For facing aerated concrete, special solutions must be used that will not lead to detachment.
- Special material for inter-unit bonding. Conventional mortars, which are used for laying standard building materials, aerated concrete needs an adhesive composition. Otherwise, insufficient adhesion of the blocks will lead to the collapse of the walls.
- Rust. Due to the high content of lime in the material, elements that are made of metal will soon begin to oxidize, turning into noticeable rust.
Thus, having gathered together all the shortcomings of the building material, you should make a choice. After weighing all the pros and cons, you can start building a house, not forgetting that it is better to measure a hundred times and cut it off only once.
