It is the chargers from the computer power supply that have a small cost and at the same time perfectly charge car batteries. At home, such a device is assembled in about half an hour.
You need to take a power supply of 200-250 watts. The most important modernization in it will be raising the voltage to 14.4 V. To start working with the unit, first of all, you need to disconnect it from the power. After that all the wires are soldered, except the green one. It is soldered to the sites of negative contacts. They are located where the black wires were.
Further manipulations will be carried out with the PWM operating mode, with the TL494 chip. At the same time, there are many power supplies with its full counterparts. First, the first leg of the microchip is sought, on the back of which there is a track. There are three resistors on it, for operation you will need a + 12V unit connected to the terminals. It needs to be unsoldered and resistance measured. After that, a variable resistor with similar parameters is installed at the same place.
Next, it is necessary to increase the resistance of the resistor until the voltage at the output becomes 14.4 V. Upon reaching the desired marks, it is necessary to disconnect the variable resistor and measure its voltage, which will increase sharply. Now it is important to choose a constant element with a resistance very close in value.
For example, you can make a double resistor, the total resistance of which will correspond to the desired data. All work on converting the computer power supply is completed. Now its cover can be closed and tested on machine batteries.
If the owner is interested in how the progress of charging is progressing, then a voltmeter is connected to the power supply box. For him, you can make a special window in the device. For convenience, a plastic handle is attached to the power supply itself.
The charger has the function of protection against short circuit and overvoltage, but it will not withstand overtaking. Thus, batteries with the wrong polarity will quickly damage the power supply.
