A bit of history

The English style created and improved itself from the 18th to the 20th century; Victorianism and Georgianism had a great influence on it. The confluence of styles and the meeting of eras found themselves in this style.

Under the reign of George I, the English style succumbed to the influence of Rome and Ancient Greece. This style is characterized by symmetry and restraint. As for the color, it was selected depending on whether it is north or south. The northern side is characterized by warm colors: gold, yellow, pink or the color of a lemon. For the south - cold: green, turquoise, azure. When decorating, the Indian, Moorish, Japanese, Chinese styles, Rococo were borrowed.

In the time of Queen Victoria, in the mid-19th century, a Victorian style appeared. During this period, the active development of industrial industry was observed, and as a result, the bourgeoisie has developed as a separate class. Interior items have become available and what used to be expensive has become affordable for almost everyone. Now the interior is, first of all, a demonstration of wealth and status of the owners.

The so-called English style, which is so widely known, was created by the famous 19th-century designer William Morris. William already at that moment was able to balance aristocracy and the beginning of production progress.

English style details:

• carpets: plain and with patterns;
• fireplaces: with elements of carved decor, marble, mirrors;
• Lighting: chandeliers, sconces with matt lamps and floor lamps;
• fabrics and leather: damask, chenille and velvet;
• furniture: oak or mahogany with arched legs;
• windows: drapery with folds, tassels and lambrequins, and the windowsill could be covered with pillows;
• crystal, copper and gilding: in the design of paintings, socles and lamps;
• patterns: tiled on the floor of the hall or kitchen.

There are no curved lines in the English style, everything is elegant, and only "thoroughbred" trees are chosen for the manufacture of wooden furniture. The English style resonates with antiquity, everything is furnished with cornices, brass handles, unsurpassed fireplaces and stairs, which are necessarily decorated with sculptural elements.

A fireplace is an integral part of the English interior. This is the place where, after working days, the whole family is going to drink tea or just talk about urgent matters. The fireplace can be made of stone or simply bricked. The carpet is a mandatory attribute of the fireplace, which creates more comfort and warmth.

If we talk about the walls, they are replete with a variety of paintings and tapestry carpets. And the walls themselves are the most ordinary, of the same color, striped, with some uncomplicated pattern or finished with oak. Parquet may lie on the floor, but in such a way that wood fibers are visible.

Textiles are a very important detail in the English interior. Various wraps on sofas and armchairs, pillows, lampshades. The colors used are mostly calm, pastel. As for the drawings, it can be peas and flowers, in particular roses.
