Kitchen-living room 22 sq. m. with an unusual style and "smart home"

A unique project made it possible to organize three functional areas on a limited area of ​​22 square meters - a dining room, a living room and a kitchen. It was not easy to do this, because four family members should use the room comfortably.

However, designer Mikhail brilliantly coped with the task, and was able to create another recreation area. For this, a redevelopment was carried out, and the balcony was attached to the living area. Moreover, the Smart Home system is organized in the house, which allows you to control devices remotely.

Customer

The customers were a family of five. A married couple with two children and a grandfather live in the apartment. For some time they lived in an apartment, without making any major changes. At some point, the family decided that it was time to transform the housing. The arrangement began with an appeal to the Housing Question program, which is engaged in the reconstruction of premises. The initial task was to design the main room in the house - the kitchen-living room.

The wife travels a lot, has an impeccable taste, and enjoys the cultural life of various countries. It is not surprising that she wanted to get an aesthetically perfect result, for this the most daring and incredible opportunities were used. Working with such customers is very interesting, because you get room for creativity. On the other hand, the task was complicated by the fact that in a short time it was necessary to learn and determine the needs of the family. And the requirements were very high.

Tasks and wishes

The room, on the style of which was to work, was a rectangular room with an area of ​​16 square meters, with a balcony. This is a favorite gathering place for the whole family for communication and relaxation. It was important to create an atmosphere of comfort, while adhering rather to areas such as minimalism, loft or high tech. For registration, saturated bright colors, expressive textures were used. The functionality of the kitchen is thought out to the smallest detail, while the room has a number of distinctive features.

A lover of modern gadgets, the owner wanted to see a working Smart Home system in his home. And the hostess wanted the work surface to end with an island by the window. The family agreed that the kitchen must have a fireplace. The ideas were such as to visually expand the space even further, this was facilitated by the love of family members for mirror surfaces. The main concept, which was followed during the design of this kitchen-living room, included all the wishes.

Layout

The difficulty was that it was technically impossible to completely eliminate the wall between the balcony and the living room. We limited ourselves to removing the double-glazed window. The result was a room divided by a wide wall into two parts, the smaller of which had a complex shape. Designing a corridor format is always a nuisance. On the other hand, the designer was faced with the problem of justifying the presence of silhouettes of window openings. An unusual planning decision is largely due to the influence of these factors.

Storage

 The working part of the kitchen is located along the end wall. Since the ceiling in this part of the room is lowered, it turned out that the kitchen was arranged as if in a niche. On the opposite side is the living area. It is equipped with modular furniture. It houses a media center, built-in TV and storage system. In one line next to the fireplace area there are racks, they are placed along the end walls, which allows you to visually make the room more square.

Colour

The project organically combines clearly defined planes and lines, they made it possible to technically organize the space. The game of volumes allows you to support not only furniture and wall elements, but also a combination of different textures. Therefore, decorative plaster with concrete texture was chosen as finishing materials, it is present on almost all surfaces of the room.

Custom furniture panels with graphic milling were used to decorate the walls and ceiling, black slate, smoky glass and mirrors, elements made of rough wood with a “sawn oak” texture brought a bit of extravagance to the interior and charm. The mere use of mirrors and reflective surfaces has already made it possible to create a visually lighter and airier space.

Smart decision

A media center is installed in the living room area, with it you can not only control the Smart Home system, turn on / off the light, but also perform a number of other manipulations. The media center is an interactive tablet table. Unlike ordinary gadgets, this device has a powerful platform and a large display, it was created to order, and in terms of functionality it can compete even with a full-fledged computer.

Using this system, you can implement any gaming and working functions. It can be used as a regular coffee table. It is possible to display information from an interactive table on TV and any gadgets, for this you need an Internet connection. You can make a background image information from the device, a widget with a clock, stock price or weather forecast.

Furniture

Opposite the entrance to the former window opening there is a biofireplace enclosed in glass, it can be seen from two sides. This helped to achieve the illusion that the remainder of the wall is a specially crafted fireplace niche. Behind this window there was a free zone, which is organized as a chill out. Here, family members can relax comfortably while enjoying the views of the city's landscapes. The balcony block has been safely transformed from the peninsula, which is used as a bar, so managed to hide its true purpose.

The kitchen set was chosen for a long time and carefully, it was difficult to choose the option that best suits the aesthetic idea of ​​the room. There were several options, but failed to get ready-made furniture with a laminated surface and with a suitable texture for the general interior. And none of the manufacturers agreed to engage in the manufacture of facades, performing complex manipulations on painting veneered material or solid wood. These works, even as part of an individual order, are long and difficult to carry out.

As a result, a company was found that is engaged in the manufacture of furniture, using a new generation of lamination. She makes facades in the form that was required for use in the framework of this project. The issue was resolved, the furniture looks very natural and beautiful.

Difficulties

Naturally, such a complex and saturated with various elements project could not be created quickly and without excesses. Many initial ideas had to be adjusted in the course of action, and some were simply abandoned. Take, for example, the window sill block, which was originally planned to be completely dismantled.

It was not possible to do this, and the designer was forced to modernize the project, to make changes taking into account the available capabilities. It is impossible to radically change the plan of work that has already been launched. Therefore, on the site of the remainder of the wall, a peninsula grew up on which a biofireplace was successfully located.

During the implementation of the project, it was planned to create, along with an interactive table, an integrated TV with touch control. This option had to be abandoned, because the budget did not allow the idea to be implemented. And the functionality of this product was somewhat non-specific, especially considering the presence of a tablet interactive table.
