It is multifaceted and means only that the room is made in the traditions of the time that has already passed. And, therefore, this style has a lot of directions. Naturally, you can take all the best from different styles, but then retro will be very strongly given to modern. And to achieve the desired effect of nostalgia and comfort in the kitchen will not work.
Victorian style
Retro in the interior of the kitchen got its name in honor of the Queen of Great Britain Victoria, who ruled there in the 90s of the nineteenth century. This is a rich style that is perfect for those who love natural materials, and the area of the room allows you to create a kitchen-living room.
The main colors are light cream and various shades of wood. Walls are best glued with plain wallpaper or painted in some neutral color. It is desirable to paint the ceiling in the same way as the walls, or to make a monochromatic matte stretch, or suspended. At the end of the nineteenth century, such material as linoleum already appeared, so if there is no desire to lay authentic parquet, stone floor or tile, then this is an excellent economical and practical option.
The center of the composition is a large dining table. It must necessarily be made of wood, “heavy” varieties of wood, a thick countertop with the same legs and an abundance of thread on the entire surface will look especially beautiful. To such a table it is better to use the same chairs. If it is difficult to imagine their type, remember the goal of hunting Ostap Bender in 12 chairs - this is a classic example of Victorian chairs.
The material of the kitchen set in retro should also be natural wood. The best breed is the one from which the table is made. This will allow you to achieve the same color palette at no additional cost. In such a headset, several glass stained-glass windows are required to give authenticity. You should also take care of places for household appliances.
At the end of the nineteenth century there was not even such an elementary thing as a gas stove, therefore, to achieve maximum effect, it is necessary to hide or mask all the equipment in the kitchen.
As a decor, it is best to use old paintings, engravings of the Victorian era. It is better to hang heavy woven curtains on the windows. For lighting, it is preferable to use a massive chandelier (how to choose here) and lamps stylized as candlesticks.
Difficult 40s
The fourth decade of the twentieth century turned out to be extremely difficult and difficult for the population of the planet, especially its European part. Because of this, a new fashion came from across the ocean, where the war was not so destructive.
Due to the difficult situation, the design of that time acquired bright, joyful colors mixed with white and black (you will also be interested this article). Another distinctive element is the multiple stainless steel elements, which have come into fashion as a stylish and durable material.
The walls of the kitchen are best painted in light cream colors. Against such a background, bright, sometimes flashy colors of furniture and household appliances will look most impressive. The ceiling is white, matte, with a hanging single chandelier. The floor can be lined with plain linoleum or use parquet, or tile in bright colors. It is strongly not recommended to use a laminate, since at this time it has not yet appeared.
The kitchen set at that time was not much different from modern ones: remove modern accessories, plastic edging and install round stainless steel knobs. All this must be done in bright, festive colors: lemon, turquoise, green - there will be an exact hit in the style of the forties.

The style of those years did not have any particular color scheme. The walls of the kitchen in the retro style of that time could be green, the furniture was red, and all the appliances could be azure - and all this would be retro in the style of the sixties.
As in all other retro directions, the best solution for walls is to paint them in some bright, non-conflict color: green, blue, pink, yellow. These colors will not cause sharp discomfort, do not darken the room and will look spectacular in any kitchen. You can choose any floor, but the fashion of those years was dark wood, which means that parquet or laminate shades of dark oak, chestnut, cedar, mahogany are perfect. The ceiling is best left white, for this you can either paint it or apply more modern finishing methods.
The kitchen should be bright. And preferably glossy, the material of the furniture is not as important as its surroundings. In those days, closed lockers without display cases were in fashion, all the handles and additional elements were chrome-plated to give greater effect. The dining table should echo the rest of the furniture, be the same color palette. The tablecloth in yellow, red or green will look great on it. A fabric sofa and armchairs in a small corner for relaxation will look good.
During these years, there was a fashion technique that stood out against the background of the overall picture with its size, color, as well as the absence of sharp corners. It was from these times that refrigerators with rounded edges came to us, which is why they acquired some kind of futuristic look in those days.
