How to replace one tile on the floor: restoration work

Tiling is a very practical option. The tile decorates any room, it is convenient to look after it. However, sometimes chips or cracks may form on it. In this case, it is not at all necessary to change the entire coating, only damaged elements can be replaced.

What needs to be prepared

Replacing only damaged elements is much easier and cheaper. To do this, you will need:

Grout removal

This is the very first stage in restoration work. This is done as follows:

• When the material is soft, grout must be removed with a knife or screwdriver.

Dismantling cracked tiles

To remove the damaged element, you can use a hammer, chisel or punch. A drill is also required.

• Using a drill, you need to drill several holes at the site of the defect.

• A punch or chisel must be installed in one of the holes. If a chisel is used, then it is necessary to gently knock on it with a hammer.

Removing old glue from the base

When all the pieces are removed, under them you can see the remains of the old composition.

Glue Removal:

• All adjacent whole areas are sealed with masking tape. So they will not be damaged.
• Using a spatula, the remainder of the composition is carefully removed. Since the solution is sufficiently dense, you can treat it with a solvent to soften the glue.

Choosing the right glue

The choice of composition depends on the size of the damaged element:

• If the product is small, a cement-based water-soluble adhesive will suffice.
• If the tile is large, then glue with enhanced characteristics on an epoxy basis is needed.

Adhesive application

Since the area of ​​work is small, the application of glue will not cause difficulties.

• The prepared place must be carefully primed.
• The composition must be diluted according to the instructions.
• The surface is wetted with water.
• Using a spatula, the composition is applied to the base.

Laying a new tile

When all the preparatory work is completed, you can proceed to installation.

• The product must be laid in a prepared place, and crosses should be inserted at the edges.
• Using a level, you need to level it. If it is not level, then you need to level it using a rubber mallet.

Grouting

When the glue is completely dry, you can apply a puffer.

• All crosses must be removed.
• Grout is applied with a rubber spatula.
